K.M. Muhammad Kodi Kundapur
1947 – 2011
Kundapur Kodia K.M. Muhammad, affectionately known as Councillor Muhammad, was born into a modest family in 1947, the son of Farooq and Fatimabi. Despite his humble beginnings, Muhammad’s dedication and service to his community earned him widespread respect and admiration.
From a young age, Muhammad demonstrated a strong commitment to his faith and community. For 38 years, he served as the muaddin (caller) of the mosque, fulfilling his duties diligently and without seeking any reward. His selfless service extended to various tasks within the mosque, including cleaning and organizing, all considered acts of “khidmat” or service.
In addition to his religious endeavors, Muhammad also took it upon himself to provide free religious education to children in his community.
Despite his involvement in religious and social service, Muhammad eventually heeded the call to engage in politics, joining the Congress party and running for office. In 1987, he was elected as a member of the Kundapur Municipality, later serving as the Chairman of the Municipal Standing Committee.
Muhammad’s contributions were not limited to politics and religion; he also served as the President of the Juma Masjid for two terms, further solidifying his role as a respected leader within his community. His dedication and service earned him recognition and honors from various organizations in and around Kundapur.
He passed away on December 15, 2011, leaving behind his wife Zubeda, along with eight sons and four daughters.
