1931 ನೇ ಇಸವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಸಮೀಪದ ತಣ್ಣೀರುಬಾವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಹಾಜೀ ಟಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ರವರ ತಂದೆ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್. ಇವರು ಮೂಲತಹ ಮಳಲಿ ಹತ್ತಿರದ ಬಯಲ್ನವರು. ತಾಯಿ ಐಸಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲತಹ ತಣ್ಣೀರುಬಾವಿಯವರು
ಹಾಜಿ ಟಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ರವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಝೊಹರಾರವರು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಸಮೀಪ ಉರ್ವಾ ಮಾರ್ಕೆಟ್ ವಾಸಿ ಇದ್ದಿನಬ್ಬ – ಖತೀಜಾ ದಂಪತಿಗಳ ಪುತ್ರಿ ಮತ್ತುಇವರ ಹಿರಿಯ ಸೋದರ ಮಾವ ಶೇಕಮ್ ಸಾದೂರವರ ಮೊಮ್ಮಗಳು.
ಹಾಜಿ ಟಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ರವರಿಗೆ ಮೂವರು ಸಹೋದರರು. ಹಾಜಿ ಟಿ. ಮಹಮೂದ್ (ಮಾಂಬ ಹಾಜಾರ್), ಟಿ. ಹಸನಬ್ಬ ಮತ್ತು ಟಿ. ಅಬೂಬಕ್ಕರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಮೂವರು ಸಹೋದರಿಯರು. ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಇವರ ಜೀವಿತಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಮರಣ ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಹಾಜಿ ಟಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ರವರ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ತಣ್ಣೀರುಬಾವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಎಸ್. ಎಸ್. ಎಲ್. ಸಿ. ವರೆಗಿನ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಇಡ್ಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾದಾಯಿನಿ ಹೈಸ್ಕೂಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯಿತು.
ಪ್ರಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ತಣ್ಣೀರುಬಾವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಬಯಲ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ತಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿ, ಇಬ್ಬರು ಅಣ್ಣಂದಿರ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಮತ್ತು ತೀರಿಹೋದ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಅಕ್ಕಂದಿರ ನಾಲ್ವರು ಮಕ್ಕಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇದ್ದ ತುಂಬು ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಅವಿಭಕ್ತ ಕುಟುಂಬದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಪತ್ನೀಕರಾಗಿ ಪಣಂಬೂರಿನ ಅಚ್ಚುತಪೇಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ “ಕಟ್ವಾಣ” ಎಂಬ ವಿಶಾಲವಾದ ಮನೆ ಮತ್ತು ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು ಇವರ ಹಿರಿಯ ಅಣ್ಣ ಮಾಂಬ ಹಾಜಿಯವರು ಮನೆಯ ಹಿರಿಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಮಾಂಬಹಾಜಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಅವರ ಸ್ವಂತ “ಸಲಾಮತಿ ಎಕ್ಸ್ಪ್ರೆಸ್” ಎಂಬ ಮಂಜಿ ಇತ್ತು. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಬೈ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ನಡುವೆ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿ ಸಾಗಾಟ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತು
ಎಸ್. ಎಸ್. ಎಲ್. ಸಿ. ಯ ನಂತರ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಮಯ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಅಂದಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದ ಜವುಳಿ ಮಳಿಗೆ ‘ ಚಂದ್ರಾನ ಬ್ರದರ್ಸ್’ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಅದರ ನಂತರ ತನ್ನ ಅಣ್ಣನ ಜೊತೆ ಮಂಜಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಬೈಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾ ಬರುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದರು. ಮುಂಬೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡು ಅಲ್ಲೇ ‘ರಾತ್ರೆ ಶಾಲೆ’ ಸೇರಿ ಡಿ. ಕಾಮ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಕೊರ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಡಿಪ್ಲೊಮಾ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಮಯದ ನಂತರ ಊರಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ನೆಲಸಿದ ಇವರು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಂದರು ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ತೆರಿಗೆ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಜೀವನ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು.
ಕಾಲಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಈ ವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತಾ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ರಥಬೀದಿ ಚಿತ್ರಾ ಚಿತ್ರಮಂದಿರದ ಅಳಕೆ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಗಣೇಶ ಪ್ರಿಂಟರ್ಸ್ ಬಿಲ್ಡಿಂಗಿನ ಎರಡನೇ ಮಹಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಅಕೌಂಟ್ಸ್ ಕಛೇರಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಓರ್ವ ನುರಿತ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಇದ್ದರು. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಅಕೌಂಟ್ಸ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಪಡೆಯಲು ಇವರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರೂ, ಪರಿಚಯಸ್ಥರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ತರಬೇತಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
1960 – 70ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಂದರು ಮತ್ತು ಹಂಪನಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ವರ್ತಕರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮರ್ಸರ್ಸ್, ಮುಸ್ಬ, ಪಾಲ್ಘಾಟ್ ಟೆಕ್ಸ್ಟೈಲ್ಸ್ , ಹೋಟೆಲ್ ಉದ್ಯಮಗಳಾದ ಲೈಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಪರ್ಸಿಯಾ, ಮೆಜಸ್ಟಿಕ್, ಇಂಪೀರಿಯಲ್, ಜನಾಬ್ ಉಮರ್ ಫಾರೂಕ್ ಹಾಜಿಯವರ ಅಡಿಕೆ ಬಂಡಸಾಲೆ, ಎಸ್. ಎ. ಮಹಮೂದ್ & ಎಂ. ಕೆ. ಮಿಕ್ದಾದ್ರವರ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಬಂಡಸಾಲೆ, ಎಂ. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಹಾಜಿಯವರ ಖರ್ಜೂರದ ಅಂಗಡಿ, ಬಿ ಎಸ್. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ ಹಾಜಿಯವರ ಜೀನಸು ಹೋಲ್ಸೇಲ್, ಮಾಡರ್ನ್ ಟಿನ್ ವರ್ಕ್ಸ್, ಹೋಲ್ಸೇಲ್ ಗೋಣಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಸ್ಥರು ಹೀಗೆ ಹಲವಾರ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಇವರ ಕ್ಲೈಂಟ್ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವು. ಅಕೌಂಟ್ ಸೇವೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇವರು ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ತೆರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅದಾಯ ತೆರಿಗೆ ಕೇಸುಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಅಕೌಂಟ್ಸ್ ಪ್ರಾಕ್ಟೀಸ್ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪುಟ್ಟ ವ್ಯವಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಜಾಗ ಖರೀದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾರಾಟ, ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕಾ ಬೋಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲುದಾರಿಕೆ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ವ್ಯವಹಾರಗಳು.
ಪಣಂಬೂರಿನ ಅಚ್ಯುತ ಪೇಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಿಭಕ್ತ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅವರು ತನ್ನ ಅಣ್ಣಂದಿರ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಲೌಕಿಕ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಾಳಜಿ ವಹಿಸಿ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಕಾಟಿಪಳ್ಳದ ಮರ್ಹೂಮ್ ಹಾಜಿ ಹಸನಬ್ಬ ಮಾಸ್ಟರ್ರವರು ಇವರ ಬಾವ ಅಂದರೆ ಇವರ ಅಕ್ಕಳ ಪತಿ.
1965-66ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪಣಂಬೂರು ಮನೆಯು ನವಮಂಗಳೂರು ಬಂದರು ಯೋಜನೆಗಾಗಿ ಭೂಸ್ವಾಧೀನವಾದಾಗ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಿದ್ದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳೂ ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರ 7ನೇ ಬ್ಲೋಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕವಾಗಿ ಸೈಟುಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಿತು.
ಆಹಾರ, ಉಡುಗೆ ತೊಡುಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಸ್ತಿಬದ್ಧ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಹಾಜಿ ಟಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ರವರು ನಮಾಝ್, ಉಪವಾಸ, ಝಕಾತ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮತೆಯನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ 3 ಬಾರಿ ಹಜ್ ಯಾತ್ರೆ ಕೈಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವಿತಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಟುಂಬದವರೊಂದಿಗೆ, ನೆರೆಹೊರೆಯವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಅನ್ಯೋನ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರ ಕಷ್ಟ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರವಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. 60, 70, 80ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ತಣ್ಣೀರುಬಾವಿ, ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರ, ಚೊಕ್ಕಬೆಟ್ಟು, ಕಾಟಿಪಳ್ಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲಸಿದ್ದ ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ, ನೆರೆಹೊರೆಯವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವರಿಗೆ ರಂಝಾನ್ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ರಂಝಾನ್ ಕಿಟ್’ ವಿತರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇದರಿಂದ ಉಪಕಾರ ಆಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.
ಅವರ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೇ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ ಸಂದರ್ಭಾನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ಕೋಡಿಕಲ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಡಿಕಲ್ನ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿ, ಮದ್ರಸ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಚೊಕ್ಕಬೆಟ್ಟು ಮುಹ್ಯುದ್ದೀನ್ ಜುಮ್ಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ, ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯವೆಸಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಯ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಸರ್ವತೋಮುಖ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇನ್ನೂ ಅನೇಕ ಇತರ ಮಸೀದಿಗಳ ಜೀರ್ಣೋದ್ಧಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಹಸ್ತ ನೀಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಇವರ ಔದಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಎರಡು ಜೀವಂತ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ನಮಗೆ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಂದನೆಯದಾಗಿ ಇವರು ಚೊಕ್ಕಬೆಟ್ಟು ಮುಹ್ಯುದ್ದೀನ್ ಜುಮ್ಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ 12½ ಸೆಂಟ್ಸ್ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣದ ಒಂದು ಸೈಟನ್ನು ದಾನವಾಗಿ ನೀಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಎರಡನೇಯದಾಗಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರ 7ನೇ ಬ್ಲೋಕಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಬದ್ರಿಯಾ ಜುಮ್ಮಾ ಮಸ್ಜಿದ್ (ಕೇಂದ್ರ) ಇದಕ್ಕೂ ತಮ್ಮ 12½ ಸೆಂಟ್ಸ್ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣದ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಸೈಟನ್ನು ದಾನವಾಗಿ ನೀಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರ 7ನೇ ಬ್ಲೋಕ್ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ಸೈಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗ ಬದ್ರಿಯಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ PUC ವಿಭಾಗ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಕಟ್ಟಡ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಈ ಎರಡೂ ಸೈಟುಗಳು ಇಂದು ಕೋಟಿಗೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬೆಲೆ ಬಾಳುವ ಸೈಟುಗಳಾಗಿದೆ.
ಹಾಜಿ ಟಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ರವರು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಪ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಓದು ಇವರ ಹವ್ಯಾಸವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ‘ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಚೆಲ್ತ್’ ಎಂಬ ಇವರ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಭಾಷಾ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ 2009ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಿದೆ. ಬಿ. ಎ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅಲಿ ಕಮ್ಮರಡಿ ಮುನ್ನುಡಿ ಬರೆದ, ಹಿತೋಪದೇಶಿ ಚುಟುಕು ರೂಪದ ಈ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಕೃತಿ ಓದುಗರ ಪ್ರಶಂಸೆಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
ತಮ್ಮ ತಾರುಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ಮಲೆನಾಡಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ತಂದೆಯವರು ಸಣ್ಣ ಸೇತುವೆ, ಬಾವಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದಂತಹ ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆದಾರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ತಂದೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಗುಂಬೆಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಡಿನ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆದ ಅನುಭವ ಕಥನಗಳು, ಆರಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರ್ಹೂಮ್ ಹಾಜಿ ಪಿ. ಇ. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ರವರ ಅಂಗಡಿ, ತೋಟಗಳ ವಿವರ, 60 – 70ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಬಂದರು ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಗಳು, ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಸ್ಥರುಗಳ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದ ಒಂದು ಕೈ ಬರಹದ ಕೃತಿ ಇತ್ತು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು “ಜೀವನ ಪರ್ಯಟನೆ” ಎಂಬ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ಅದೊಂದು ವಿಸ್ತೃತ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡ ಕೃತಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಕುಟುಂಬದೊಳಗೇ ಒಬ್ಬರಿಂದೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಕೈ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಆ ಕೈ ಬರಹದ ಕೃತಿ ಈಗ ಎಲ್ಲಿದೆಯೆಂದು ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.
ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಹಾಜಿ ಟಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ರವರು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಮಯ ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರದಲ್ಲೂ ವಾಸವಿದ್ದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವಿತಾವಧಿಯ ಕೊನೇಯ ಲಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೆಸ್ಕಾಮ್ ಆಫೀಸಿನ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಮನೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪತ್ನಿ ಹಾಗೂ ನಾದಿನಿಯ ಮಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಾಹನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಂತಾನ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಕರುಣಿಸಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

(1931–2012)
A Life of Service, Integrity and Generosity
Late Haji T. Muhammad was born in 1931 at Thannirubavi, near Mangalore. His father was Abdul Khader, whose family originally belonged to Bayal near Malali. His mother Aisamma was a native of Thannirubavi.
His wife, Mrs. Zohara, was the daughter of Iddinabba and Khadeeja of Urwa Market, Mangalore. She was also the granddaughter of Shekam Sadu, who was the elder maternal uncle of Haji T. Muhammad.
Haji T. Muhammad had three brothers and three sisters. His brothers were Haji T. Mahmood (popularly known as Mamba Hajar), T. Hasanabba, and T. Abubakar. All his brothers and sisters passed away during his lifetime.
He received his primary education at Thannirubavi and completed his SSLC education at Vidyadayini High School, Surathkal.
In his early years, he lived at Thannirubavi and Bayal. After his marriage, he lived with a large joint family at a spacious house and garden known as “Katwana” in Achutapete, Panambur. The family included his parents, two elder brothers and their families, and four children of his two deceased sisters. The eldest member of the family was his brother, Mamba Haji.
His eldest brother, Mamba Hajar, who was the principal caretaker of their undivided family, owned a traditional manji (large cargo boat) named Salamathi Express. The vessel was used to transport goods between Mangalore and Mumbai.
After completing SSLC, Haji T. Muhammad worked for a short period as an accountant at the famous textile store Chandrana Brothers in Mangalore. Later, he frequently travelled to Mumbai with his elder brother in their cargo boat.
He eventually took up employment in Mumbai. While working there, he attended a night school and completed D.Com and a Diploma in Accountancy. After some years, he returned to his hometown and began his professional career as an accountant and commercial tax consultant in the Mangalore Bunder area.
As his practice grew, he started his own accounting office on the second floor of Ganesh Printers Building on Alake Road, near Chitra Theatre in Car Street, Mangalore. Another skilled accountant also worked with him. Many relatives and acquaintances sent their children to his office to receive practical training in accounting.
During the 1960s and 1970s, many prominent business establishments in the Mangalore Port and Hampankatta areas were among his clients. These included merchants such as Mercers, Musba, Palghat Textiles, hotels like Light of Persia, Majestic, and Imperial, the arecanut warehouse of Janab Umar Farooq Haji, the oil warehouse of S.A. Mahmood and M.K. Miqdad, the dates shop of M. Abdul Khader Haji, the wholesale provisions business of B.S. Abubakar Haji, Modern Tin Works, wholesale gunny traders, and many other commercial firms.
Apart from maintaining accounts, he also handled commercial tax and income tax cases for his clients.
Alongside his accounting profession, he was involved in small business ventures. These included buying and selling land and investing as a partner in fishing boats.
While living in the joint family at Achutapete, Panambur, he took special interest in the religious and worldly education of his nephews and nieces and regularly guided them. His brother-in-law was the late Haji Hasanabba Master of Katipalla, who was married to his elder sister.
In 1965-66, the Panambur family property was acquired for the New Mangalore Port Project. As a result, the four families living there received separate residential sites in Krishnapura 7th Block and moved there independently.
Haji T. Muhammad lived a disciplined life in matters of food, dress, and personal habits. He was very particular about performing prayers, fasting during Ramadan, and paying Zakat. During his lifetime, he performed the Hajj pilgrimage three times.
He maintained very close relationships with family members and neighbours and was always ready to help them during difficult times. During the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, he regularly distributed Ramadan kits to needy relatives and neighbours living in Thannirubavi, Krishnapura, Chokkabettu, and Katipalla. Many people benefited from this charitable work…
Since his professional activities were mainly centered in Mangalore, he later shifted his residence there and lived in different parts of the city at different times.
While residing in Kodikal, he served as President of the Kodikal Juma Masjid and Madrasa Committee. He also served as Secretary and President of Chokkabettu Muhyuddin Juma Masjid and contributed significantly to its overall development. In addition, he extended financial and moral support to the renovation and development of several other mosques.
Two lasting examples of his generosity can still be seen today.
Firstly, he donated a site measuring 12½ cents to Chokkabettu Muhyuddin Juma Masjid.
Secondly, he donated another 12½-cent site to Badria Juma Masjid (Central) in Krishnapura 7th Block. Today, the PUC section building of Badria Educational Institution stands on this land behind the mosque.
Both these donated properties are now worth more than crores of rupees.
Haji T. Muhammad was also a lover of literature. Reading was one of his favourite hobbies. In 2009, the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy published his Beary-language book titled “Byari Chelth.” The book carried a foreword by B.A. Muhammad Ali Kammaradi. Written in a brief and moral-instruction style, the work was appreciated by readers.
During his youth, he spent some time in the Malnad region, where his father worked as a contractor involved in the construction of small bridges and wells. While accompanying his father to Agumbe, he had many memorable experiences travelling through forest paths.
He had written a handwritten manuscript titled “Jeevana Paryatane” (Journey of Life). The manuscript contained detailed accounts of his experiences in Malnad, descriptions of the shop and plantations of the late Haji P.E. Abdul Khader of Araga, and valuable information about major businessmen and traders of the Mangalore Port area during the 1960s and 1970s.
The manuscript contained extensive historical and social information. It was passed from one family member to another over the years, but unfortunately its present whereabouts are unknown.
Although he spent most of his life in Mangalore, he also lived for some time in Krishnapura. During the final years of his life, he built a house near the mosque beside the MESCOM office in Surathkal. There he lived with his wife and the daughter of his sister in law.
Allah did not bless the couple with children. Later in life, he suffered from an abdominal illness. Despite treatment, his condition did not improve. He passed away on 26 October 2012, which coincided with the day of Bakrid (Eid al-Adha).
His wife passed away seven months after his death.
