Abdul Hameed of Mittur, a man who desired to stand out and be recognized, added “Kandak” to his name during his college years, and this unique identity stayed with him throughout his life. Born on February 18, 1963, in Mittur to Umar Kunhi and Asyamma from Idkidu village in Bantwala taluk, Abdul Hameed pursued his BCom degree, completing his education in Mittur and Puttur.

Involved in various social, political, and religious activities, Abdul Hameed established himself as a prominent figure in his community. He founded a newspaper called “Hi Puttur,” through which he gained recognition as a journalist. His educational journey began at primary and high schools in Mittur and continued through PU and graduation at Puttur College.

Abdul Hameed held several significant positions in his community. He served as Secretary and President of Sirajul Huda Juma Masjid in Mittur, Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Madrasa Management, Organizing Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Minority Unit, and General Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Editors Club.

As the editor of “Hi Puttur,” Abdul Hameed sought to address and resolve societal issues. The newspaper garnered a dedicated readership across the Dakshina Kannada district. His contributions were recognized by the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Akademi, Blood Donors Mangalore, and the Dakshina Kannada District Press Club.

Abdul Hameed’s passion for reading and writing fueled his dedication to social service, making him a respected figure in the Bantwala-Puttur taluk area. Known widely as Abdul Hameed Kandak, he passed away on February 14, 2022, leaving behind his wife Fauzia, sons Nadeem Shehzad, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Suhaib Akhtar, and daughter Simran Asia.

ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ ಮಿತ್ತೂರು ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಹಮೀದ್ ಕಂದಕ್

ನಾಲ್ಕು ಮಂದಿಯ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ತಾನು ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಇತರರು ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಸದಾ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರರ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ತಾನು ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹಂಬಲಿಸಿದ್ದ ಮಿತ್ತೂರಿನ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಹಮೀದ್ ಅವರು ಕಾಲೇಜು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ತನ್ನ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಮುಂದೆ “ಕಂದಕ್” ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆಯುವವರೆಗೆ ಅದೇ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ ಚಿರಪರಿಚಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಇಡ್ಕಿದು ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಉಮರ್ ಕುಂಞಿ-ಆಸ್ಯಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1963ರ ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 18ರಂದು ಮಿತ್ತೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಹಮೀದ್ ಬಿಕಾಂ ಪದವೀಧರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಅವರು “ಹಾಯ್ ಪುತ್ತೂರು” ಎಂಬ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊರತಂದು ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರಾಗಿಯೂ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.

1ರಿಂದ 1ನೆ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗೆ ಮಿತ್ತೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪಿಯು ಮತ್ತು ಪದವಿಯನ್ನು ಪುತ್ತೂರು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರೈಸಿದರು.
ಮಿತ್ತೂರಿನ ಸಿರಾಜುಲ್ ಹುದಾ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಮದ್ರಸ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜ್ಮೆಂಟ್‌ನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಅಲ್ಪಸಂಖ್ಯಾತರ ಘಟಕದ ಸಂಘಟನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಎಡಿಟರ್ಸ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್‌ನ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

“ಹಾಯ್ ಪುತ್ತೂರು’ ಪ್ರತಿಕೆಯ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಾಗಿ ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಂಕುಡೊಂಕು ತಿದ್ದುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾದ್ಯಂತ ಈ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯು ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಓದುಗ ಬಳಗವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಬ್ಲಡ್ ಡೋನರ್ಸ್ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಹಾಗೂ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರೆಸ್‌ಕ್ಲಬ್‌ನಿಂದ ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು.
ಓದುವ ಮತ್ತು ಬರೆಯುವ ಹವ್ಯಾಸ ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಹಮೀದ್ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಕಂದಕ್ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಮೂಲಕವೇ ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ-ಪುತ್ತೂರು ತಾಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಹಮೀದ್ ಕಂದಕ್ ಅವರು ಪತ್ನಿ ಫೌಝಿಯಾ, ಪುತ್ರರಾದ ನದೀಮ್ ಶೆಹಝಾದ್, ಸರ್ಫ್ರಾರ್ ಅಹ್ಮದ್, ಸುಹೈಬ್ ಅಕ್ತರ್, ಪುತ್ರಿ ಸಿಮ್ರಾನ್ ಆಸಿಯಾ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು 2022ರ ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 14ರಂದು ನಿಧನರಾದರು.
