Abdul Hameed Venur

Born on February 16, 1947, in Maruru near Manjeshwar, Abdul Hameed Venur was the son of Haji Muhammad Musliar, renowned as Pudianjadi Ustad, and Halimamma. From a young age, Abdul Hameed showed an appreciation for literature and a keen interest in religious and secular matters.

Although his formal education extended only up to SSLC, Abdul Hameed possessed extensive knowledge in various subjects. His love for reading and his mastery of language propelled him into poetry. He began composing poems, focusing on spiritual and religious themes, which were later published in newspapers like Al Ansar-Moilanji.

Abdul Hameed Venur’s poetic repertoire often explored the theme of death, earning him the moniker “poet of death” among some circles. His verses, both poignant and profound, delved into the mysteries of mortality, reflecting on the transient nature of life.

Beyond poetry, Abdul Hameed also delved into painting and calligraphy, showcasing his artistic talents. His impeccable handwriting earned him recognition from organizations like the Karnataka State SSF Sangathan, which posthumously honored him with a Sahitya Award.

Despite facing economic challenges throughout his life, Abdul Hameed Venur prioritized education for his nine children, alongside his wife Rabiamma. His sons pursued opportunities in Gulf employment and business, while his daughters excelled in various fields. Safia, with a PhD degree, serves as a guest lecturer at Mangalore University, while Dr. Barkatunnisa practices dentistry. Aisha Khatoon holds an M.Com degree, and Beavi Ashura is both an MBA and M.Com graduate.

Abdul Hameed Venur’s life journey, characterized by his commitment to literature, education, and family, came to an end on April 17, 2011.
