Ahmed Noori is one of the prominent writers and journalists of Dakshina Kannada district. He was a famous teacher, author, journalist, translator, multilingual scholar and a social worker. In 1978, he was one of the six members of a committee which prepared the first Kannada translation of the Holy Qur’an.

Ahmad Noori was born on 10 June 1920 in Mangalore. He completed Urdu Intermediate Degree from Aligarh University and graduated with ‘Adeeb Maheer’ in Urdu. He also passed the ‘Hindi Rashtra Visharad’ exam.

After matriculation, he worked in the revenue department of the Madras government. Later he resigned from the job and devoted himself fully to writing.

Literary Career:

Ahmad Noori has translated around 20 books from various languages ​​into Kannada. He was the editor of various periodicals like ‘Sandesh’, ‘Kitab’, ‘The Message’. His articles were mostly published in ‘Sanmarga’ weekly. He was one of the founding members of the Bearys Welfare Association established in 1988 at Bangalore. He was a polyglot who learned English, Urdu, Kannada, Tamil, Farsi and Arabic languages ​​on his own. He was actively engaged in translating works from these languages to Kannada. He also translated the details of homeopathic medicines at Father Müller’s Hospital, Mangalore, into Kannada. His articles have been published in popular magazines like Hamdard, Prabha, Kanteerava, Swadeshabhimani, Jeevana, Badavara Bandhu, Udayachandra, Shanti Sandesha, Navashakti, and Amanat. He also worked for Justice Rahim’s Sadakat, an English newspaper. He actively participated in the Khilafat movement during the pre-independence period.

He was the recipient of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Award. He passed away on September 2, 2012 at Bangalore.
