Ahmed Anwar

Ahmed Anwar, born on September 26, 1964, to Moosa Ahmed and Nafisa in Bengre, an island area near Mangalore, was a man of diverse talents and passions. Despite his modest beginnings, he pursued education up to the PUC level and demonstrated a keen interest in literature from a young age.

Primarily a businessman, Ahmed Anwar possessed an innate talent for photography, which he cultivated alongside his professional endeavors. His love for literature led him to contribute articles and poems to leading newspapers in both Kannada and Beary languages. Notable publications include “Bharat Geeta,” “Noorondu Kavithegalu,” “Gulmoharu” (a collection of poetry), and “Namma Kanasina Bharatha” (a collection of essays). His literary contributions earned him recognition, with posthumous collections such as “Payanigana Padyagalu” published by Bilichukke Prakashan.

Ahmed Anwar’s affinity for photography transformed from a hobby into a lifelong passion and vocation. His skill behind the camera was evident in exhibitions showcasing his work, reflecting his unique perspective and creative vision. In addition to his artistic pursuits, he was actively involved in various organizations, including the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Moodbidirey Kannada Sangh, Muslim Writers Association, Karnataka Photographers Association, Dakshina Kannada District Photographers Association, Karnataka Working Journalists Association, and Youth Photographers Association.

His literary achievements were recognized with prestigious awards, including the Dr. Kavi Pejavar Sadashivadas Memorial Award from the Mumbai Karnataka Association and the Muslim Writers’ Association Award for “Bharat Geeta” and “One Hundred Poems.” “Gul Moharu” received the Sahitya Setu Award from the “Snehasetu” organization in Bangalore, while the compilation “Bevu Bella” Hanigavan earned the Attimabbe Foundation Award. Additionally, he was honored with the Sheikh Ahmed Sir Hindi Award by UNICEF Karnataka.

Writing under the pen name Abu Asma, Ahmed Anwar left behind a legacy of literary and artistic excellence. He is survived by his wife Shahida Umar, two daughters, and one son. His contributions continue to inspire and enrich the cultural landscape, even after his passing on December 11, 2016.
