Ayesha U.K

Born to Abdul Khader and B. Fatima, Ayesha U.K. hails from Uppinangady of Dakshina Kannada District. She began her education at St. Philomena School, Uppinangady, and completed her high school education at the Government High School in the same town.

For her pre-university education, Ayesha attended Vadihuda in Kannur, Kerala, while also earning a degree in Afzal Ul Ulama from Calicut University. At the age of 20, she commenced her teaching career at Hira Institute in Tokkottu, Ullal.

In addition to her teaching profession, Ayesha has actively engaged in literature, culture, and social service. She displayed an early talent for writing short poems, with her works being published in magazines like Sanmarga, Anupama, Prasthutha, Vartha Bharati, and Udayavani.

While still a student, Ayesha won prizes in essay and story competitions. Her first poems and stories in the Beary language were published in “Meltiri” (a poetry collection) and “Kinavu” (a story collection) during her PUC years, inspiring her to continue writing in Beary.

In 2008, at the Muslim Writers’ Association’s state conference for Muslim writers and journalists, Ayesha recited her poem “Hennu” for the first time, receiving praise and recognition from renowned poet Professor Nisar Ahmed.

Ayesha holds the distinction of being the first Beary woman to chair a poetry session at the Beary Conference held at Purabhavana, Mangalore, in 2011. From 2006 to 2010, she served as the president of the Muslim Women’s Literary Association and was a member of the State Advisory Committee of the Girls Islamic Organization from 2006 to 2009.

She has been involved in the activities of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy since its inception and was honored by the academy in 2015 for her contributions as a Beary woman achiever. Ayesha served as a member of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy in 2017, organizing literary workshops for students and women during her tenure

In 2018, she formed a WhatsApp group called “Beary Elthgarthimaro Koota” to bring together Beary women writers. Her Beary poems and articles have been published in Beary Varthe, Belkiri magazines, and various web portals. In 2019, she was selected as a member of the book committee of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy.

Since 2019, Ayesha has been serving as the president of the women’s division of Blood Donors Mangalore. She has written and directed more than 20 plays in Kannada and Beary languages for college students and chaired over ten poetry sessions while reciting poems in more than a hundred.

Her Kannada and Beary songs are popular, with “Namma Desha,” a patriotic song, being particularly notable. Two of her Beary poems have been translated into Konkani and published in the “Arso” magazine.

In 2020, her poetry collection “Gode Kattuvavaru” was published. She has participated as a resource person in numerous organizations.

Ayesha has served as a lecturer at the Hira Institute for 17 years and currently runs a nutrition Center and a Public Service Center. She resides in B.C. Road of Bantwala Taluk with her husband Abdul Jaleel and their three children.
