Janab B. M. Farookh was born into a prominent Beary Muslim family in Mangalore on April 18, 1966. Late Haji Ahmed Bawa, his father, was a successful businessman and Late Ayishamma, his mother, was the doting matriarch of the family. His full name is Bava Mohammad Farookh.

Bava Mohammed Farookh is a renowned human rights activist, philanthropist and entrepreneur who has worked tirelessly in grass root levels of the public sphere. He holds Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering & MBA from Bangalore University.

After completing his education, in his early 20’s, Farookh turned a first-generation entrepreneur, established a business house namely, Fiza Group of Companies (‘Fiza’), one of pioneer renewable energy development companies in India and now a prominent renewable energy service provider in the country. Founded with a vision of creating a cleaner & greener future by reducing carbon footprints, which was then predominantly dependent on conventional energy sources such as thermal and hydro power projects. Under Farookh’s able leadership and strategic growth initiatives, the company has not only grown steadily, but also exponentially and now one of the prominent clean energy companies in the renewable energy market which has developed Gigawatt size wind and solar energy projects across the length and breadth of India. With his earnest efforts, Farookh paved way for marquee investors and wind turbine generator manufacturers to India, when there was no specialist wind and solar energy developer in India.

Government of India honoured him with the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Urja Divas’ award consecutively in 2004 and 2005, in recognition of his excellent service in the field of renewable energy services and awarded as 2nd largest developer of Renewable Energy.

In 2013, B. M Farookh led the Indian delegation at the World Economic Forum conference held in Dalian, China. He was recognized as a global ambassador for climate change in the event.

B. M Farookh was unanimously elected as a member of the Karnataka State Legislative Council in 2018. He is doing a dedicated service to the state of Karnataka as the Chairman of the Karnataka State Government Assurance Committee for the last 3 years.

As a President of Bearys’ Welfare Association, Bangalore for the last 15 years he has played an important role in realizing the dream of ‘Bearys’ Souharda Bhavan’, a 15 crore plus project at the prestigious HBR Layout, which stands proudly in the heart of Bangalore today, which plays major role in connecting 2 million beary community.

B M Farookh, remains very simple and humble who dines with the poor and helps them in their needs. His millions have bred pride in their heart and his many social/charitable pursuits have endeared him to everybody in the society.
