B.M. Haneef

B.M. Haneef was born on December 12, 1961 at Bellayaru village of Mangalore taluk in Dakshina Kannada. He completed his B.Com degree from Govindadas College, Surathkal and attained a degree in law from SDM Law College, Mangalore. He has also done a special course in commercial Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism, Germany.

B.M. Haneef joined veteran journalist Vaddarse Raghuram Shetty’s Mungaru daily as a sub-editor in 1984. He later became its senior sub-editor and also served as the assistant news editor. He started his career in Prajavani as a sub-editor in 1989 and later became the District Correspondent of Prajavani-Deccan Herald in Bijapur district. He gained experience as a field reporter in Bijapur, Bagalkote, Dharwad and Gulbarga. After being promoted as the senior sub-editor, he also worked as the head of commercial news section and commercial supplement of Prajavani. He was also the Mysore bureau chief for the daily. B.M. Haneef has also worked as the editor of ‘Beary Times’. He was promoted as an assistant editor in Bengaluru where he retired as the Chief Editor of Sudha weekly. After his retirement from Deccan Herald-Prajavani group, he has founded a media centre and keeps himself busy in media related activities.
