ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರದ ಹಾಜಿ ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ಬಾವಾ ಮತ್ತು ಆಯಿಶಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1970ರ ಜನವರಿ 25ರಂದು ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ್ದ ಹಾಜಿ ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಹೃದಯ ಗೆದ್ದಿದ್ದ ಅಪರೂಪದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವದ ಕೆಲವೇ ಕೆಲವು ಪ್ರಮುಖರ ಪೈಕಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಸರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೌಹಾರ್ದದ ಹರಿಕಾರ ಎಂದೇ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್‌ ವಿದ್ಯಾದಾಯಿನಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 1ರಿಂದ 7ನೇ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರದ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಜೂನಿಯರ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ 8ರಿಂದ 10ನೇ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗೆ ಕಲಿತ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಬಳಿಕ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.

ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಲೈಮ್ ಆ್ಯಂಡ್ ಮೆರೈನ್ ಇಂಡಸ್ಟ್ರೀಸ್ ಉದ್ಯಮ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಬಾ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಸಂಘಟಕರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೇರಳದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರ ಜೊತೆ, ಅಗ್ರಗಣ್ಯ ನಾಯಕರ ಜೊತೆ ನಿಕಟ ಒಡನಾಟ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಸುನ್ನಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿ ನಾಯಕರಾಗಿ ಅಪಾರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಜನರ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ಹಾಗೂ ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಚಿರಪರಿಚಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳು, ಸಂಘ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು, ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳು, ಸಭಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ಸಮಾವೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಚೂಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತು ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಶಕ್ತಿಮೀರಿ ಶ್ರಮಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ನುರಿತ ಸಂಘಟಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ರಂಗದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಅವರಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನಡೆದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬಷ್ಟರಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿ ನಾಯಕನಾಗಿ ಮೂಡಿಬಂದಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಸಮಾಜ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸದಾ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಧರ್ಮೀಯರ ಜೊತೆಗೂ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಬಾಂಧವ್ಯ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾದರಸದಂತೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳು, ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನಗಳು, ಸಮಾವೇಶಗಳ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗಾಗಿ ಅವಿರತ ದುಡಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲರೊಂದಿಗೂ ಆತ್ಮೀಯವಾಗಿ ಬೆರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಯಾವುದೇ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗೆ ಧುಮುಕಿದರೆ ಅದು ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಆಗುವವರೆಗೂ ಅವರು ವಿರಮಿಸುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಗಳ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಉದ್ಯಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಯೋಜನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ರಾಜಕೀಯವಾಗಿ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪಕ್ಷದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಯಕರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆತ್ಮೀಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಜನಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಸದಾ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಸಮಾಜದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವರ್ಗದ ಜೊತೆ ನಿಕಟ ಸಂಪರ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಬಂದ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ಕೂಡ ಬರಿಗೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಪಸ್ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದವರಲ್ಲ. ತನ್ನ ಕೈಲಾದ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿ ನಗುಮುಖದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು.

ತನ್ನ ಉದ್ಯಮ, ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ, ವಹಿವಾಟುಗಳ ಮಧ್ಯೆಯೂ ಸಮಾಜಮುಖಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಉಲಮಾಗಳನ್ನು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಗೌರವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಉಮರಾ ನಾಯಕರು ಹೇಗಿರಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದಕ್ಕೂ ನಾಯಕತ್ವ ಕೊಡುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅರ್ಹತೆಯಿದ್ದರೂ ಕೂಡ ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ಆದೇಶ ಮಾಡದೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರಂತೆ ಸ್ವತಃ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ಇತರರನ್ನು ಹುರಿದುಂಬಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಊರು, ಪರವೂರು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ತನ್ನ ಅಧೀನದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗೆ ಜಾತಿ, ಮತ ಭೇದವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ನೆರವು ನೀಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಚೂಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು.

ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಕಮಿಟಿಯ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಇನ್‌ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಶನಲ್ ಫೆಡರೇಶನ್‌ನ (ಮೀಫ್) ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರದ ಅಲ್ ಬದ್ರಿಯಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕಾಟಿಪಳ್ಳದ ಮಿಸ್ಬಾಹುಲ್ ಹುದಾ ವಿಮೆನ್ಸ್ ಅರಬಿಕ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕಾಟಿಪಳ್ಳದ ಮಿಸ್ಬಾಹುಲ್ ನಾಲೇಜ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ (ರಿ)ನ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರ 7ನೇ ಬ್ಲಾಕ್‌ ಬದ್ರಿಯಾ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಜಮಾಅತ್‌ನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸುನ್ನಿ ಮದ್ರಸ ಮೇನೇಜ್‌ಮೆಂಟ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್ ‌ನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಪುತ್ತೂರು ಕುಂಬ್ರ ಮರ್ಕಝುಲ್ ವಿಮೆನ್ಸ್ ಪಿಯು ಮತ್ತು ಇಸ್ಲಾಮಿಕ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕೇರಳದ ಕಲ್ಲಿಕೋಟೆಯ ಸುನ್ನಿ ಮದ್ರಸ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಬೋರ್ಡ್‌ನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪಂಪ್‌ವೆಲ್ ಇಸ್ಲಾಮಿಕ್ ಕಲ್ಚರಲ್ ಸೆಂಟರ್ ಮಸ್ಜಿದುತ್ತಖ್ವಾದ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ, ನಂಡೆ ಪೆಂಙಳ್ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಜಮಾಅತ್ ಕೌನ್ಸಿಲ್‌ನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ, ಮೆಲ್ಕಾರ್ ವಿಮೆನ್ಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ, ಬಾವಾಸ್ ಚಾರಿಟೇಬಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್‌ನ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಮೈನಾರಿಟಿ ಗೈಡನ್ಸ್ ಫೋರಂನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ, ದುಬೈಯ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ಕಲ್ಚರಲ್ ಫೋರಂನ ಪೋಷಕರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇನ್ನೂ ಹಲವಾರು ಸಂಘ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪದಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ, ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ಕುಂಬೋಳ್ ತಂಙಳ್ ಸಾರಥ್ಯದ ಮೂಳೂರು ಸುನ್ನಿ ಸೆಂಟರ್‌ನ 25ನೇ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸಮಿತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಜನಾಡಿಯ ಅಲ್ ಮದೀನಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ ಹಬ್ಬ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಸ್ವಾಗತ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿಗೆ ಕಾಟಿಪಳ್ಳದ ಚೈತನ್ಯ ವಿಕಾಸ ವೇದಿಕೆಯ ಚೈತನ್ಯ ಸಾಧನಾ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಜೂನಿಯರ್ ಚೇಂಬರ್ ಇಂಟರ್‌ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್‌ನ ಔಟ್‌ಸ್ಟಾಂಡಿಂಗ್ ಯಂಗ್ ಪರ್ಸನಲ್ ಅವಾರ್ಡ್, ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಕಲಾರಂಗದ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ನಿಲಾವು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ದುಬೈಯ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ಕಲ್ಚರಲ್ ಫೋರಂನ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಆಫ್ ದಿ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಇಂಟರ್‌ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್ ಅವಾರ್ಡ್ ಲಭಿಸಿತ್ತು. 2010ರಲ್ಲಿ ದುಬೈಯ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ಕಲ್ಚರಲ್ ಫೋರಂ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದ ವಿಶ್ವ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು.

2024ರ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 6ರಂದು ನಿಧನರಾದ ಮುಮ್ತಾಝ್ ಅಲಿ ಪತ್ನಿ ರಿಯಾನಾ, ಇಬ್ಬರು ಪುತ್ರಿಯರು ಹಾಗೂ ಒಬ್ಬ ಪುತ್ರ ಸಹಿತ ಅಪಾರ ಬಂಧು, ಬಳಗ, ಗೆಳೆಯರನ್ನು ಅಗಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

The Harbinger of Unforgettable Communal Harmony

Born on January 25, 1970, in Krishnapura to Haji B.M. Ahmad Bava and Ayishamma, Haji B.M. Mumtaz Ali was one among the rare personalities of the Beary Muslim community who captured the hearts of the people with his noble character and was widely recognized as a champion of communal harmony in the region.

He completed his primary education (1st to 7th standard) at Vidyadayini Higher Primary School, Surathkal, and continued his high school education (8th to 10th standard) at the Government Junior College in Krishnapura. After that, he joined his father in business.

He managed Mangalore Lime & Marine Industries located in the Baikampady Industrial Area of Mangalore and was actively involved in social, educational, and religious spheres. A remarkable organizer, he had close ties with many leading religious scholars and prominent leaders of Dakshina Kannada and Kerala. He was a respected and influential figure in the Sunni religious community and won the love, trust, and respect of thousands.

Widely known within the Muslim circles of Dakshina Kannada, Mumtaz Ali played a pivotal role in almost every major religious and social activity, organization, and public program. A seasoned organizer, he consistently worked behind the scenes to ensure their success.

He emerged as an influential leader whose presence was almost indispensable in the district’s Muslim religious and social events. He built strong bonds not only within his community but also among people of all faiths, participating actively and energetically in community initiatives. Whether it was an educational project, a social event, or a public gathering, he worked tirelessly and connected with everyone warmly. Once he took up the responsibility of organizing an event, he would not rest until its success was ensured.

In the business circle of the district, Mumtaz Ali was also an inspiring figure, motivating several entrepreneurs to participate in social, educational, and religious initiatives. Though he was not politically affiliated with any party, he maintained cordial relations with senior leaders across all political parties.

Despite his wealth, Mumtaz Ali was easily accessible to the common people. He constantly planned for the upliftment of the community and maintained close contact with people from all walks of life. No one who approached him went back empty-handed; he helped to the best of his ability and always with a warm smile.

Even amid his business and commercial engagements, he remained deeply rooted in community service. He especially respected religious scholars and set an example of what a leader among the Umara (wealthy and influential) should be. Though he possessed all the qualities of a leader, he never issued commands; instead, he worked alongside others like a common volunteer, inspiring them through his actions. Whether it was his hometown or neighboring areas, he generously supported the staff of his educational institutions, irrespective of caste or creed.
