The illustrious “Bantwalkars” of Baikampadi in Dakshina Kannada district, owes its renowned status to the remarkable contributions of Bantwal Abdul Khader, whose exemplary service in social and religious domains, along with his philanthropic endeavors, endeared him to the people of Baikampadi and its environs.
Abdul Khader, born on September 5, 1906, to Sornad Iddinabba Beary and Beefathima in Bantwala Taluk, embarked on his journey of service and entrepreneurship from humble beginnings. After completing his primary education up to the fifth standard at the Panemangalore Government Senior Primary School, Abdul Khader ventured into the nut business in Bejjavalli village of Tirthahalli taluk, Shimoga district. Over time, his business flourished, and he acquired extensive agricultural land in Baikampadi, earning the distinction of being the largest farming family in Dakshina Kannada district.
Beyond his entrepreneurial pursuits, Abdul Khader demonstrated a commitment to philanthropy, allocating a portion of his profits to support the underprivileged members of society. His benevolence extended to various local leaders and individuals committed to fostering peace and harmony in the community, including Baikampadi Guthu Tampanna Malli, Kudumburu Bhoja Shetty, Javuli Habba Beary, Hoige Abubakar Haji, Batrakad Hammabba Beary, Bangar Bavu Beary, Kukkadi Hassan Beary, etc.
Abdul Khader’s generosity also encompassed sacrifices for public projects, such as contributing acres of agricultural land for initiatives like the Baikampadi Industrial Area, Baikampadi Agricultural Produce Market, Bharat Petroleum Company, and Southern Railway Project. His selflessness and dedication to community welfare were further evidenced by his service as the President of Baikampadi Badria Juma Masjid, where he tirelessly worked towards its holistic development.
Moreover, Abdul Khader played a pivotal role in promoting education within the community and provided financial assistance for the marriages of economically disadvantaged girls. He was survived by his wife Mammatiamma and their 15 children, including seven sons and eight daughters when he passed away on July 01, 1973. Notably, three of his sons, Abdul Aziz Baikampadi, Abdul Hameed Ansari Mysore, and Bashir Baikampadi, have served as members of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Akademi, a remarkable achievement within the family.
Abdul Aziz Baikampadi also holds the position of President of Baikampadi Beary Kalaranga, while Basheer Baikampadi, who previously served as Deputy Mayor of the Mangalore Municipal Corporation, currently presides over the Beary Sahithya Mathu Sanskrithika Sangha.
