Celebrating Beary Culture: The Journey of Beary Kalaranga

Established in 1997 at the Bluestar Hotel in Mangaluru, Beary Kalaranga has been a stalwart in preserving and promoting Beary culture and heritage in Karnataka. Under the leadership of key office bearers:

  • Azeez Baikampady as President
  • Lateef Bluestar, Satish Surathkal, and Riyaz Bantwal as Vice Presidents
  • Akbar Ali as General Secretary
  • Ibrahim Jokatte as Secretary
  • Hameed Jokatte, Rahim Ucchil, Rahim Capman, Chandrahas Thokottu, and Madhav Shakthinagar

Beary Kalaranga has organized numerous significant events that have enriched the cultural landscape of the region.

The journey began with the release of the inaugural Beary drama, “Ahmedaka Ro Chiri,” at the Bengaluru Beary Sammelana in 1998, officiated by B. A. Moideen, the former Minister of Karnataka. Subsequent years saw the rise of Beary Mondhi programs in Mangaluru, featuring traditional art forms like Kol Kali, Oppane, and Beary-Malayalam songs. In 2000, the impactful “Un-Theen Jend Airafoodfest” event took place at Kadri Park, further cementing Beary cultural prominence.

The reach of Beary Kalaranga extended globally in 2001 with the release of the “Gulf Ro Pudiyample” Kathaprasanga CD in Dubai and Mumbai. Literary endeavors also thrived, with Hamza Malar’s first novel launching at Woodlands Hotel.

In 2009, the Beary Ormmepad program in Moodbidre left an indelible mark, followed by the inauguration of the Beary Samskritika Mela at Mangaluru Town Hall in 2010. Programs like “Nombro Porisha” in BC Road, “Beary Bombommar” in Sullia, and “Kutachor” in Udupi showcased the diverse tapestry of Beary culture.

Each year, Beary Kalaranga commemorates Beary Language Day, reinforcing the significance of the Beary language and its preservation.

In 2011, “Indatho Rajau, Nalletho Fakir” Kathaprasanga was released at Mangaluru Town Hall. Subsequently, the Beary Kalavidara Samavesha became an annual interschool competition, showcasing Beary heritage dances and music.

In 2016, the groundbreaking event “Wadhu Dakshina” took place at Fiza Ground, Surathkal, where five couples were married without dowry or financial support, alongside a full day of engaging programs. Also released a Musical drama “Theen kinna”.

In 2017, notable literary releases included “Odhe Baniya,” “Karnoor,” and “Dum Biryani” drama books.

In 2018, “chinna radege sahitya ra nade” program we held,”noor sale’l, noor pantha” in which training and competitions in poetry and prose were organized for schools, impacting over 65 schools and collecting numerous poems and stories from students.

Despite challenges posed by the pandemic in 2020, Beary Kalaranga remains resilient. This year, they are poised to launch their first-ever Beary animated series, “Puniyakoti,” catering to younger audiences and continuing the rich legacy of Beary cultural celebration.

In addition to their cultural initiatives, Beary Kalaranga emphasizes 11 guiding conditions for the public to follow within the Beary community, fostering unity and respect among its members.

Beary Kalaranga’s journey epitomizes a steadfast commitment to honor and preserve Beary heritage, uniting communities and generations through cultural endeavors.
