The Bearys Welfare Association, Bangalore conducted a two days Beary Sammelana at the Palace Ground, Bengaluru on 13 and 14 December, 1997. The historic event marked the decennial celebration of the association. A selected group of Beary youth from Mangalore was invited to hold cultural events in the Sammelana. The young people who went from Mangalore to conduct the events did their best to make the cultural extravaganza a wonderful occasion that became a great success. The Beary poets’ convention, drama, songs and the other events organized by these youth were praised by everyone.

The team of young men met again after the event, had a serious discussion and decided to join forces as a new organization, the Beary Sahitya Mattu Samskritika Sangha. Basheer Baikampady became its founding president and Muhammad Kulai was made the general secretary. The group was later joined by two new members, Hussain Katipalla and Athaulla Jokatte. The Sangha organized various literary and cultural events like Beary Poets’ convention, songs, kavvali, nenal kali, adalat, talent show, drama and many more events which added impetus to the Beary movement in Dakshina Kannada district. The first Beary Sammelana organized by the Sangha by putting together community leaders from different sectors, writers and artists of both the districts at Purabhavana, Mangalore on 11 November, 1998 was another milestone in the Beary movement. The literary event was presided over by Veteran poet B M Iddinabba. Ever since, the Beary Sahitya and Samskritika Sangha is active in enhancing the literary and cultural sensibilities of the community. Beary Varthe, a periodical in Beary language, regularly published by the group is a great success.
