In the current scenario, where the major section of the youth is seen using the social media platforms as a tool to destabilize the public order, peace and harmony in the society by spreading fake news, instigating violence and hate mongering. But on 8^th August of 2016, with an aim of serving the society irrespective of caste, creed or religion, and with the motto of ‘Let us become blood relatives’, a group of likeminded non-resident Indians who have acquainted each other through the social media platforms have come together under the leadership of Nisar Ullala and Nasir Ulaibettu, to form a small WhatsApp group named Blood Helpline Karnataka.

Officially registered by the Government of Karnataka in 2017, BHL operates through 50 official operators in India and Overseas and also has over 5000 members through more than 45 WhatsApp groups. Blood helpline Karnataka which has a network of over 7000 members through Facebook has also expanded its network on Twitter and Instagram.

Blood Help Karnataka (R) is not confined to just Mangaluru, but has expanded its operations across

Sullia, Puttur, Belthangady, Moodabidir, and neighbouring districts of Udupi, Chikkamagalore, Raichur, Kalburgi, Bijapura, Shivamogga, Kodlipete Mysore, Hassan, Bengaluru, and other major cities by donating blood to the patients as and when there is need for it. Apart from this BHL also operates in Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Blood helpline Karnataka, a household name among the patients, has hosted hundreds of successful blood donation camps across Karnataka, has even expanded its reach to neighboring state of Kerala as well by organising 16 Blood donation camps already.

Blood Help Karnataka (R) in its journey till the 255^th Blood Donation Camp has so far collaborated with 257 organisations and 30 blood banks of various hospitals, thereby collecting 18303 units of blood. Out of the total 18303 blood units collected so far,15272 units were collected in 255 blood donation camps organized across the state and 3031 lifesaving blood units were donated by rushing to different blood banks during the emergency situations. It rose to fame by organising 21 blood donation camps in a single day and by organising 24 Blood donation camps in a month. Apart from this it provides an average of 20 to 30 units of blood each day by acting as the bridge between blood receivers and the blood donors.

Blood Helpline Karnataka, in the midst of the Corona Fear, was phenomenal in its operation, and has managed successfully to send 672 donors directly to various Blood banks, thus by emerging as the largest blood donors in the entire Karnataka state during the Covid 19 pandemic.

During the Sixth anniversary of the organisation, BHL has managed to collect 603 units of blood from the one-day Blood Donation Camps organised at a time in 21 Blood Banks situated across different cities of Karnataka and one would have never ever thought Blood Helpline Karnataka would host more than 250 successful Blood Donation Camps in such a short span of time.
