A Visionary Leader and Advocate for Beary Identity

Dr. Maqsood Ahmed Mulki is one of the founder Member, a two-term General Secretary, and past President of The Bearys Welfare Association (BWA), Bangalore. During his tenure as President, in December 1997, the historic First ever Beary Sammelana was held in Bangalore.

Dr. Maqsood, was one of the members in the first Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy (KBSA), in 2007, under the leadership of Janab M.B. Abdul Rahiman. This period is regarded as one of the most dynamic and impactful in KBSA’s history.

He also contributed to the Beary community’s literary development by editing Beary News, a monthly newsletter published by BWA, Bangalore. Additionally, he played an active role on the editorial boards of two significant souvenirs: Souharda (Amity), commemorating the 10th anniversary of BWA with a focus on promoting communal harmony after the Babri Mosque demolition, and Pragati (Bearygalu Andu, Indu, Mundu), published during the first Beary Sammelana. These publications explored the Beary community’s identity, history, education, language, arts, crafts, and occupations while offering solutions to everyday challenges.

During Dr. Maqsood’s tenure as General Secretary under the presidency of Syed Mohammed Beary, an application was submitted to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for a Civic Amenity (CA) site to construct the Beary Souharda Bhavana. Through relentless efforts by Beary leaders, particularly the late B.A. Mohideen Saheb, this dream was realized. Today, the landmark Beary Souharda Bhavana stands tall at H.B.R. Layout, Bangalore.

Dr. Maqsood has also served as Joint Secretary of Tuluverenkulu, Bangalore, and is currently an Executive Committee Member of the Dakshina Kannadigara Sangha, Bangalore.

Early Life and Education
Dr. Maqsood Ahmed Mulki was born on May 19, 1948, in Bappanadu, Mulki, to Marhoom Pudiyavuro Abdullaka and Beliyavuro Mariam Dada. He belongs to the renowned Bappanadu Bappa Beary family. He completed his early education at the Government Primary School, High School, and Government Junior College in Mulki. In 1969, he moved to Bangalore and joined his relative, the well-known Ayurvedic physician Late Dr. M.S. Bapnad, as a general assistant.

Medical Career
Dr. Maqsood graduated from Hahnemanian College of Homoeopathic Medicine, Bangalore. His professional career includes roles as a lecturer in Materia Medica and Organon of Medicine at Karnataka Homoeopathic Medical College and Government Homoeopathic Medical College, Bangalore. He also served as Principal of Bhagwan Buddha Homoeopathic Medical College, Bangalore. Currently, he practices as a private consultant in Bangalore.

Contributions to the Beary Movement
Dr. Maqsood is presently an Executive Committee Member of BWA and heads the Bylaw Committee while also being a member of the Beary Bhavana Building Maintenance Committee. He believes the greatest achievement of the Beary Movement has been resolving the community’s identity crisis.

ಡಾ. ಮಕ್ಸೂದ್ ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ಮುಲ್ಕಿ ಅವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ವೆಲ್ಫೇರ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್ (BWA)ನ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಸದಸ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರು, ಎರಡು ಅವಧಿಯ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದವರು. ಅವರ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತಾ ಅವಧಿಯಾದ 1997ರ ಡಿಶಂಬರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಪ್ರಪ್ರಥಮ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು.

ಡಾ. ಮಕ್ಸೂದ್ ಅವರು 2007 ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್‌‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಮೊದಲ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ (KBSA) ಸದಸ್ಯರಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಜನಾಬ್ ಎಂ.ಬಿ. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್‌ಮಾನ್ ಅವರ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯ ಈ ಅವಧಿಯನ್ನು ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಶೀಲ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿ ಅವಧಿಯೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಅವರು ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ಎಂಬ ಮಾಸಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಿಕ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ನೆರವಾದರು. ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ಎರಡು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸ್ಮರಣ ಸಂಚಿಕೆಗಳ ಸಂಪಾದನಾ ಮಂಡಳಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು: ಸೌಹಾರ್ದ’ ಇದನ್ನು ಬಾಬರಿ ಮಸೀದಿ ಪತನದ ನಂತರ ಸಮುದಾಯ ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಲು BWA 10ನೇ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕೋತ್ಸವದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲಾಯಿತು, ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಗತಿ (ಬ್ಯಾರಿಗಳು ಅಂದು, ಇಂದು, ಮುಂದು), ಇದು ಪ್ರಥಮ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗಳು ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಪರಿಚಯ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಭಾಷೆ, ಕಲೆ, ಕೈಗಾರಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು.

ಡಾ. ಮಕ್ಸೂದ್ ಅವರು ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ವೆಲ್ಫೇರ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್‌ನ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಸೈಯದ್ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಬ್ಯಾರಿಯವರ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯಡಿ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಡೆವೆಲಪ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಅಥಾರಿಟಿ (ಬಿಡಿಎ)ಗೆ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸೌಹಾರ್ದ ಭವನ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಾಗರಿಕ ಸೌಕರ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಳದ ವಿನಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಮಾಜಿ ಸಚಿವ, ಎಲ್ಲರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ನಾಯಕ ಮರ್ಹೂಮ್ ಬಿ. ಎ. ಮೊಹೀದೀನ್ ಸಾಹೇಬರಂತಹ ಹಲವಾರು ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ನಾಯಕರ ಶ್ರಮದಿಂದಾಗಿ, ಈ ಕನಸು ನನಸಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಂದು, ಹೆಚ್.ಬಿ.ಆರ್ ಲೇಔಟ್, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸೌಹಾರ್ದ ಭವನ ದಿಗ್ಗಜವಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿದೆ.

ಡಾ. ಮಕ್ಸೂದ್ ಅವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ‘ತುಳುವರೆಂಕುಲು’ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಜಂಟಿ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ‘ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಸಂಘ’, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಕ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ
ಡಾ. ಮಕ್ಸೂದ್ ಅಹ್ಮದ್‌ ಮುಲ್ಕಿ ಅವರು 1948ರ ಮೇ 19ರಂದು ಬಪ್ಪನಾಡು, ಮುಲ್ಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮರ್ಹೂಮ್ ಪುದಿಯವುರೊ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ಲಾಕ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಲಿಯವುರೊ ಮರಿಯಮ್ ದಾದಾ ಇವರ ಮಗನಾಗಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಬಪ್ಪನಾಡು ಬಪ್ಪ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದವರು. ಮುಲ್ಕಿಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆ, ಹೈಸ್ಕೂಲ್, ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಜೂನಿಯರ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. 1969ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರವಾಗಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಬಂಧಿ, ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಆಯುರ್ವೇದ ವೈದ್ಯ ಮರ್ಹೂಮ್ ಡಾ. ಎಂ.ಎಸ್. ಬಪ್ಪನಾಡ್ ಅವರ ಸಹಾಯಕರಾಗಿ ಸೇರಿದರು.

ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಜೀವನ
ಡಾ. ಮಕ್ಸೂದ್ ಅವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಹಹ್ನೆಮೆನಿಯನ್ ಹೋಮಿಯೋಪಥಿಕ್ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಿಂದ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಹೋಮಿಯೋಪಥಿಕ್ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಹೋಮಿಯೋಪಥಿಕ್ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಟೀರಿಯಾ ಮೆಡಿಕಾ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಗನಾನ್ ಆಫ್ ಮೆಡಿಸಿನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಬುದ್ಧ ಹೋಮಿಯೋಪಥಿಕ್ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ, ಅವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
