A man of vision and dynamism, with a determination to succeed, Dr. Thumbay Moideen is recognized in India and beyond, for the various achievements to his credit.

Born on 23rd March, 1957, Mangalorean by birth, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, a third generation entrepreneur was raised in a traditional family with a business background. Today, his name is synonymous with professionalism and positive approach. Taking to business at the tender age of 21 years, he demonstrated his business acumen from the very start.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen handled the mantle of the large business house established by his father Dr. Ahamed Hajee Mohiudeen. His father’s and grandfather Mr. Yenepoya Moideen Kunhi’s inspiration enabled him to grow and expand the business, taking it to new heights within a few years.

In the year 1997, he established the THUMBAY Group, U.A.E. Under his dynamic leadership, the group went on to achieve tremendous growth, and in the process, provided a means of livelihood to hundreds of families over the last decade.

Achievements

Dr. Thumbay Moideen had forayed into Medical Education and Healthcare Services in Ajman-United Arab Emirates, when there was no existing set-up to cater to the needs of the students to pursue higher education in medicine and healthcare sciences in the private sector. Dr. Thumbay Moideen was the first expatriate to be invited by the Rulers of Ajman to start a medical college in U.A.E. Thus, Gulf Medical University took shape which soon became a destination for medical education not only for local students, but to students from over 86 countries. Today, the institution is a name to reckon with in the region and stands out on par with some of the best medical institutions in the world.

The result of Dr. Thumbay Moideen’s initiatives and vision have taken medical education to a greater level and has resulted in over 2,000 students graduating and presently working across 60 countries or pursuing specialized studies in some of the top international universities in different parts of the world.

Influence & Impact of his Initiatives

• Thumbay Moideen has been the ‘first Indian’ to be invited to UAE (by the Rulers of Ajman) to set-up a Medical College in 1998.
• He is one of the pioneers in the fields of Higher Education and Healthcare in the country by setting up a medical college offering programs “to both boys and girls of all nationalities and the first private teaching hospital in the country.”
• The ‘impact’ of which is evident from the fact that the university attracts students from over 86 nationalities.
• GMU is listed in Asia’s Top 100 Private Educational Institutions, given by World Consulting and Research Corporation (WCRC)
• GMU has established state-of-the-art Center for Advanced Biomedical Research & Innovation (CABRI).
• GMU has established Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH).
• Over 2,000 students have graduated from the university and they are working in different countries all over the world.
• THUMBAY Hospital Ajman is the 1st JCI Accredited Hospital in Ajman. Thumbay Hospitals follow a unique model. Most of the hospitals are teaching hospitals and most of our doctors are qualified to be professors (teachers). Having such doctors gives the patients a lot of confidence.
• Patients from more than 175 countries are treated at our hospitals, which gives our students good exposure to a variety of cases. All our students are trained under the expert supervision of our faculty and physicians at our hospitals.

• He established Thumbay Medicity in Ajman, which is a regional hub of medical education, healthcare and research, with specialized hospitals like Thumbay University Hospital – the largest private academic hospital with 350 beds, Thumbay Dental Hospital, Thumbay Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Hospital and the biggest robotic pharmacy. THE IMPACT OF DR. THUMBAY MOIDEEN’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SOCIETY

• Thumbay Foundation (Charitable Trust) was set-up to help economically deserving students to pursue their education both in UAE and India and given below are some of his yeoman services carried out in facts and figures.
• Thumbay Group offers various scholarships to deserving students who wish to study at Gulf Medical University. Scholarships value is to the tune of more than AED 60 Million cumulatively over the last decade.
• Staff Welfare Measures undertaken for the employees of the entire group amounting to AED 3 Million over the last 10 years.
• Built a Mosque (Thumbay Moideen Mosque) at a value of AED 2 Million on the GMU Campus which benefits thousands of people.
• Thumbay Hospitals organized more than 75 Health Camps benefitting more than 250,000 people. Free consultations and distribution of free medicines are offered during the camps. The value of these activities is about AED 1.5 Million.
• Thumbay Group has donated more than AED 4 million to various associations to help them in their regular work over the last 10 years.
• The company has donated money supporting family wellness and also offers free food during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
