Haji Abbas Sajipa

Sajipa Abbas, born on May 18, 1952, to S. Ibrahim and Zainab in Sajipa, Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, was a man of multifaceted talents and deep commitment to his community. Growing up in a middle-class family, he pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

After completing his education, Sajipa Abbas engaged in various professions, including retailing in redstone, grocery, and shoe stores, as well as venturing into the bus industry. His involvement in these sectors not only contributed to his livelihood but also earned him the affection and respect of the villagers.

His foray into public service began with his entry into politics through the Congress party. He served as a member of the Sajipanadu Gram Panchayat, eventually rising to the position of President. His leadership extended to the Kurnadu Mandal as its Principal. Sajipa Abbas furthered his political career by becoming a member of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat and assuming the role of Chairman of the Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee.

Beyond politics, he was appointed by the government to serve on various boards and authorities, including the Coastal Development Authority, Karnataka Khadi and Village Industries Board, and Coconut and Fiber Board.

Sajipa Abbas’s dedication to community welfare was evident in his extensive involvement in social, religious, educational, and political spheres. He held leadership positions in numerous organizations, including serving as the General Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Party and President of several community institutions such as the Sajipa Kendra Juma Masjid and Sajipa Riazul Islam Madrasa.

His commitment to education led him to contribute significantly to the development of schools and educational initiatives, including serving as the President of the Sajipanadu Government School Development Committee and establishing the Adarsh English Medium School in Sajipa.

Sajipa Abbas’s tireless efforts in social service and community development did not go unnoticed. He was honored by several organizations for his exemplary contributions.

He is survived by his wife, Nafisa, and their two sons and three daughters. Sajipa Abbas’s legacy of selfless service and dedication to the betterment of his community continues to inspire many, even after his passing on July 20, 2020.
