Haji Ibrahim Baddoor
10/03/1923 – 10/07/2018
Ibrahim, born on March 10, 1923, to Moidinabba Beary and Fatima in Meramajalu village of Bantwala taluk, Dakshina Kannada district, had a humble beginning. After attending Pudu Mapla Senior Primary School in Farangipet, he joined his father’s work. However, his spirit of protest against injustice led him to join the army in 1942. During his time in the army, he gained a reputation as a skilled hunter, accompanying officers on hunting expeditions.
Leaving the army after three years, Ibrahim returned to his hometown and began a milk business. He married Fatima in 1948, who supported his endeavors, including his pursuit of education. Inspired by discussions with a visiting merchant and religious scholar named Pookoya, Ibrahim established the Hayatul Islam Madrasa on the border of Arkula village. This madrasa provided religious education to numerous students from nearby areas.
In 1990, Ibrahim relocated the madrasa to Baddur, where he played a significant role in its development. With the help of donors, he acquired four acres of land, utilizing one and a half acres for the madrasa and Juma Masjid. The remaining land was allocated to impoverished families for housing.
Ibrahim’s dedication to education extended beyond the local community. He received training in Talim from Syed Ahmed in 1954 and became a skilled instructor. Over the years, he trained thousands of students in various locations across Karnataka, Kerala, and even in Dubai, where he worked temporarily. His efforts earned him the nickname “Talimu Ibrayaka.”
In 1982, Ibrahim completed the Hajj pilgrimage, a significant milestone in his spiritual journey. He lived a fulfilled life alongside his wife, four sons, four daughters, forty-five grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. His earthly journey concluded on July 10, 2018, leaving behind a legacy of education, service, and community development.
