The Silent Social Worker

1927 – 1985

Late Haji Kote Ahmed Bava, fondly remembered as a compassionate social worker and education advocate, continues to live in the hearts of the people of Palimaru even 35 years after his passing. Known for his humility and selflessness, Haji Bava’s contributions spanned education, religion, and community service, making him a beloved figure across all sections of society.

Born in Palimaru, Haji Ahmed Bava ventured into entrepreneurship early in life. He established businesses in Maruthipura, Hosanagara Taluk, Shivamogga district, which included a rice mill, provisions store, and a clothing shop.

From 1970 to 1980, his name was widely recognized in the region. Despite his thriving business in Shivamogga, his heart remained tied to his hometown. He frequently extended his support to people in Palimaru, Hejamadi, and Padubidri, ensuring they received help during times of need.

Haji Bava was particularly known for providing rice and financial aid to underprivileged families, irrespective of their religion. He also took the initiative to support marriages of girls from impoverished backgrounds, alleviating the burdens of their families during difficult times.

A devout individual, Haji Bava constructed a Prayer Mosque in the Palimaru area and actively encouraged religious education among the community. His efforts in promoting spirituality and knowledge left a lasting impact on the region.

In addition to his philanthropic work, Haji Bava played a vital role in resolving disputes in his community. His judgment was considered final and fair, earning unanimous respect and acceptance all parties.

Unfortunately, Haji Bava’s life was marred by ill health, and he passed away at the age of 58. He left behind a large family of 14 children — nine daughters and five sons — and a legacy of kindness, integrity, and service that continues to inspire the people of Palimaru and beyond.

ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕ

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಾ ರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವರ್ಗದ ಜನರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಪಾತ್ರರಾದ ಹೆಸರೇ ಫಲಿಮಾರು ಕೋಟೆ ಹಾಜಿ ಅಹಮದ್ ಬಾವ. ಇವರು ನಿಧನರಾಗಿ ವರ್ಷ 35 ಕಳೆದರೂ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಇವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಫಲಿಮಾರು ಭಾಗದ ಜನರು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಬಾಲ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಉದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಇವರು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹೊಸನಗರ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಮಾರುತಿಪುರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಮಿಲ್, ಜಿನಸು ಅಂಗಡಿ, ಬಟ್ಟೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರದ ಉದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುತಿದ್ದರು. 1970-80ರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರ ಹೆಸರು ಪ್ರಚಲಿತದಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ಫಲಿಮಾರು, ಹೆಜಮಾಡಿ, ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರಿ ಪರಿಸರದ ಜನರ ಕಷ್ಟಕಾರ್ಪಣ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸದಾ ಸ್ಪಂಧಿಸುತಿದ್ದರು. ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಶಿವಮೊಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ತಮ್ಮ ಹುಟ್ಟೂರನ್ನು ಮರೆಯದೆ ಈ ಭಾಗದ ಜನರ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಯಾರೇ ಬಂದು ಕಷ್ಟದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರೆ ಯಾವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಹಿಂದುಮುಂದು ನೋಡದೆ ಅಂದಿನ ಕಷ್ಟದ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಧರ್ಮ ಆದರೂ ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಧನಸಾಹಯವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡುತಿದ್ದು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ  ಬಡ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮದುವೆಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಬಡವರ ಕಣ್ಣೀರು ಒರೆಸುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಜನರ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ‘ಕೋಟೆ ಹಾಜಿ ಸಾಹೇಬ’ರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಫಲಿಮಾರು ಪರಿಸರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಸ್ಕಾರ ಪಳ್ಳಿಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ್ದು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ನೀಡುತಿದ್ದರು.

ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಅಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪಂಚಾಯಿತಿ ಆಗಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಸಾಹೇಬ್ರ ತೀರ್ಪೇ ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗುತಿತ್ತು. ಇವರು ನೀಡುವ ತೀರ್ಪಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಒಪ್ಪಿಗೆ ಸೂಚಿಸುತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯದಿಂದ ಬಳಲಿದ ಇವವರು ತನ್ನ 58ನೇ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆದರು. ಒಟ್ಟು ಇವರಿಗೆ 14 ಮಂದಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು, (ಒಂಬತ್ತು ಹೆಣ್ಣು, ಐದು ಗಂಡು)
