Haji Syed Ahmed Basha Thangal is a name that resonates with the residents of Mangalore. Known for his involvement in religious and political spheres, he was also a quiet social worker whose contributions often went unnoticed, even by his closest associates. He performed his social service discreetly, never seeking recognition or promotion.

Haji Syed Ahmed Basha Thangal born to Sayed Alavi Thangal and Hawwabi on 15.12.1960, completed his early education at a government-aided Urdu school in Kasaigalli, Bundar, Mangalore. He then attended Badria Education Institute in Kandak, Mangalore, for his 8th to 10th standard. Post his education, he ventured into the transport industry and also ran a catering business for a while.

His activities extended beyond business as he actively participated in religious, social, and political fields. He held several significant positions, including Treasurer of Zeenat Baksh Center Juma Masjid, Vice President of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Muslim Central Committee, Vice President of SYS Dakshina Kannada District, Member of the Executive Committee of Al Azhariya Madrasa, and Treasurer of Darunur Education Center in Kashipatna.

Initially, he was associated with the Congress party, but later he aligned himself with the Indian Union Muslim League. He served as the President of the Muslim League Dakshina Kannada District Youth Unit and the Muslim League Dakshina Kannada District Unit. He was also a member of the State Executive Committee of the Muslim League and the Dakshina Kannada District Peace Committee.

Haji Syed Ahmed Basha Thangal was particularly concerned about orphans and provided them with financial assistance. He also facilitated the installation of borewells in various locations to ensure water availability. His philanthropic efforts were conducted quietly, away from the spotlight of public events.

He passed away on November 13, 2023, in a private hospital in Mangalore after a brief illness.

ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕ ಹಾಜಿ ಸೈಯದ್ ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ಬಾಷಾ ತಂಙಳ್

ಹಾಜಿ ಸೈಯದ್ ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ಬಾಷಾ ತಂಙಳ್ ಎಂಬ ಈ ಹೆಸರು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಚಿರಪರಿಚಿತ. ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರೂ ಇವರನ್ನು ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು. ಇವರೊಬ್ಬ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕ ಎಂಬುದು ಇವರ ಒಡನಾಡಿಗಳಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿಯದ ವಿಚಾರ. ಯಾಕೆಂದರೆ ಇವರು ಎಂದೂ ಕೂಡ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಚಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಯಾರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿಯದಂತೆ ಅರ್ಹರಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಕೈಲಾದಷ್ಟು ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಬಂದರ್‌ನ ಕಸಾಯಿಗಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿನ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಅನುದಾನಿತ ಉರ್ದು ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 1ರಿಂದ 7ನೆ ತರಗತಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಕಲಿತಿದ್ದ ಇವರು 8ರಿಂದ 10ನೆ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಕಂದಕ್‌ನ ಬದ್ರಿಯಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿತರು. ಬಳಿಕ ಸಾರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಕೆಲಕಾಲ ಕ್ಯಾಟರಿಂಗ್ ಉದ್ಯಮವನ್ನೂ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಉದ್ಯಮದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲೂ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಝೀನತ್ ಬಕ್ಷ್ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಕೋಶಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ದಿ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಕಮಿಟಿಯ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಎಸ್‌ವೈಎಸ್ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಅಲ್‌ಅಝ್ಹರಿಯಾ ಮದ್ರಸದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ, ಕಾಶಿಪಟ್ಣದ ದಾರುನ್ನೂರು ಎಜುಕೇಶನ್ ಸೆಂಟರ್‌ನ ಕೋಶಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಬಳಿಕ ಇಂಡಿಯನ್ ಯೂನಿಯನ್ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಲೀಗ್ ಜೊತೆ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಲೀಗ್ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಯುವ ಘಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಲೀಗ್ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಘಟಕದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ಲೀಗ್‌ನ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಸಭಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ದೂರ ಸರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಅನಾಥ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಪಾರ ಕಾಳಜಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಅನೇಕ ಅನಾಥ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ನೆರವು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಹಲವು ಕಡೆ ಬೋರ್‌ವೆಲ್ ತೋಡಿಸಿ ನೀರಿನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನೂ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಅಲ್ಪಕಾಲದ ಅಸೌಖ್ಯದಿಂದ 2023ರ ನವೆಂಬರ್ 13ರಂದು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ನಿಧನರಾದರು.
ಪತ್ನಿ, ಇಬ್ಬರು ಪುತ್ರಿಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಒಬ್ಬ ಪುತ್ರ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ.
