Haji Umar Farooq Padubidri was a prominent figure who dedicated his life to advancing Beary language, literature, art, and culture in Udupi district, leaving a lasting impact through his contributions.

Born on October 25, 1965, to SP Idinabba and Bifatima in Kanchinadka, Padubidri, Haji Umar Farooq began his educational journey at Government Urdu School in Padubidri. He continued his studies at a private aided school in Padubidri for his secondary education and completed his second PUC at Mulki Vijaya College. Despite later venturing into business, he remained involved in various spheres including religious, social, political, educational, and cultural activities.

Haji Umar Farooq Padubidri’s notable contributions spanned across different domains. He served three terms totalling 15 years as a member of the Padubidri Gram Panchayat, actively participating in local governance and community development initiatives. Initially associated with Janata Dal, he later aligned himself with the Congress party and emerged as a state-level leader known for his commitment to secular values.

His influence extended significantly within the Beary community and beyond. He played a pivotal role in the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, contributing to the promotion and preservation of Beary language and literature. As the President of the Udupi District Beary Literary and Cultural Council, he championed initiatives that celebrated and revitalized Beary cultural heritage. He was also actively involved in various social and religious organizations, including SYS Padubidri, Udupi District Muslim Union, Padubidri Juma Masjid, Anatul Masakeen organization, and Jamiyatul Falah.

Haji Umar Farooq Padubidri’s sudden demise on September 22, 2022, marked the end of an era. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and one son.

ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಆಂದೋಲನದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಹಾಜಿ ಉಮರ್ ಫಾರೂಕ್ ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆ

ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಂದೋಲನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಭಾಷೆ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಕಲೆ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಅಭಿರುಚಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ಬೆರಳೆಣಿಕೆಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಉಮರ್ ಫಾರೂಕ್ ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆ ಕೂಡ ಒಬ್ಬರು.

ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆಯ ಕಂಚಿನಡ್ಕದ ಎಸ್.ಪಿ. ಇದಿನಬ್ಬ-ಬೀಫಾತಿಮಾ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1965ರ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 25ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದ ಎಸ್.ಪಿ. ಉಮರ್ ಫಾರೂಕ್ ಅವರು ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆಯ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಉರ್ದು ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆಯ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಅನುದಾನಿತ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಲ್ಕಿ ವಿಜಯಾ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಪಿಯುಸಿ ಕಲಿತರು. ಬಳಿಕ ವ್ಯವಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರೂ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾದರು. ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾದ್ಯಂತ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಭಾಷಾ ಆಂದೋಲನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಮೂರು ಅವಧಿಗಳ (15 ವರ್ಷ) ಕಾಲ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನತಾ ದಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಬಳಿಕ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಜಾತ್ಯತೀತ ಜನತಾ ದಳದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಮಟ್ಟದ ನಾಯಕರಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯ ಪ್ರಪ್ರಥಮ ಅವಧಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಪರಿಷತ್‌ನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಎಸ್‌ವೈಎಸ್ ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆ ಘಟಕದ ಅಧ್ಕಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಪಡುಬಿದ್ರೆ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಜೊತೆ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಇಅನತುಲ್ ಮಸಾಕೀನ್ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ಮಾಜಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಜಂ ಇಯ್ಯತುಲ್ ಫಲಾಹ್‌ನಲ್ಲೂ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
2022ರ ಸೆಪ್ಟಂಬರ್ 22ರಂದು ಪತ್ನಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರಿಯರು ಹಾಗೂ ಒಬ್ಬ ಪುತ್ರನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಅಗಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
