Born on February 8, 1949, M Ibrahim Bawa Haji was the son of BM Ahmed Haji and Halima, hailing from Kandak, Bandar in Mangalore. He was a notable author, publisher, social worker, and a dedicated guardian to orphans, truly embodying the spirit of community service.

Ibrahim Bawa Haji received his religious education at Madrasatul Azhariya in Mangalore Bundar. He completed his primary, secondary, and pre-college education at Badria Educational Institute in Mangalore and earned a B.Sc. from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. Following a Diploma in Food and Nutrition from Mumbai, he joined Hamdard Company in Mumbai. Eventually, he returned to his hometown and ventured into the nut business. Later, he, along with his brothers, took over his father’s dry fish and sack business.

A humble and multilingual gentleman, Ibrahim Bawa Haji was proficient in about 18 languages, including Beary, Kannada, Tulu, Hindi, English, and Arabic. He had a special affection for orphans and served as the secretary and president of Zeenath Baksh Yateem Khana in Mangalore. Actively involved in various religious and educational institutions, he was the President of Thokkott Masjid Tajul Ulama. Additionally, he was the founder president and treasurer of Merkaz Taleemil Ihsan Vidya Sansthan in Mulur, Udupi district.

Known for his humility, Ibrahim Bawa Haji often donated in secret, ensuring that even his closest circles remained unaware of his charitable acts. He held great respect for religious scholars, mosque-madrasa staff, and madrasa students. His life was deeply rooted in religious consciousness, and he maintained a spotless reputation.

Balancing his business ventures with social service, he launched the Al Ansar weekly in Deralkatte in 1990. He also established Sanabil Printing Press and Samarat Book store, and in 1999, he started the monthly publication, Moilanji. As an author, he published numerous religious works and was the publisher for these texts. Overseeing the Al Ansar newspaper for three decades, Ibrahim Bawa Haji became a custodian of Islamic ideology and practice, affectionately known as “Bawa Hajar” among his close associates. After the demise of his first wife, he had married again. He had three sons and a daughter from his first wife.

Ibrahim Bawa Haji maintained close relationships with many prominent scholars, including Indian Grand Mufti Sultanul Ulama AP Abubakar Musliar, Tajul Ulama Ullala Thangal, Bekala Ibrahim Musliyar, Manjanadi Abbas Musliyar, and Qazi Kota Abdul Qader Musliyar of Mangalore. He passed away on May 10, 2021, in a private hospital in Mangalore.

ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಬಂದರ್‌ನ ಕಂದಕ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ಹಾಜಿ-ಹಲೀಮಾ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1949ರ ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 8ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದ ಎಂ. ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಿ ಲೇಖಕ, ಪ್ರಕಾಶಕ, ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕ, ಅನಾಥ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಪಾಲಕ-ಸಂರಕ್ಷಕ ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಅಪ್ಪಟ ಸಮುದಾಯ ಪ್ರೇಮಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಬಂದರ್‌ನ ಮದ್ರಸತುಲ್ ಅರ್ಹರಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆದ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬದ್ರಿಯಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ, ಪ್ರೌಢ ಮತ್ತು ಪದವಿ ಪೂರ್ವ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಎಸ್ಸಿ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದರು. ಬಳಿಕ ಮುಂಬೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಫುಡ್ ಆ್ಯಂಡ್ ನ್ಯುಟ್ರಿಶಿಯನ್ ಡಿಪ್ಲೊಮಾ ಪೂರೈಸಿ, ಮುಂಬೈಯ ಹಮ್‌ದರ್ದ್ ಕಂಪೆನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದರು. ಕೆಲವು ಸಮಯದ ಬಳಿಕ ಊರಿಗೆ ಮರಳಿ ಅಡಿಕೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಒಣಮೀನು, ಗೋಣಿಚೀಲ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರವನ್ನು ಸಹೋದರರ ಜೊತೆಗೂಡಿ ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸತೊಡಗಿದರು.
ಬ್ಯಾರಿ, ಕನ್ನಡ, ತುಳು, ಹಿಂದಿ, ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್, ಹಿಂದಿ, ಅರಬಿಕ್ ಸಹಿತ ಸುಮಾರು 18 ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲಿತಿದ್ದ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಿ ಸರಳ ಸಜ್ಜನಿಕೆಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅನಾಥ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮೇಲೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಅಭಿಮಾನ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಝೀನತ್ ಬಕ್ಷ್ ಯತೀಂ ಖಾನಾದ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ, ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಅನೇಕ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಿ ಅವರು ತೊಕ್ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಮಸ್ಜಿದ್ ತಾಜುಲ್ ಉಲಮಾದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮೂಳೂರಿನ ಮರ್ಕರ್ ತಅ್ಲೀಮಿಲ್ ಇಹ್ಸಾನ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕೋಶಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಎಳ್ಳಷ್ಟು ಇಷ್ಟಪಡದ ಅವರು ಬಲಗೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು, ಎಡಗೈಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಬಾರದು ಎಂಬಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಗುಟ್ಟಾಗಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಉಲಮಾಗಳು, ಮಸೀದಿ-ಮದ್ರಸದ ಸೇವಕರು, ಮದ್ರಸ, ದರ್ಸ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಪಾರ ಗೌರವ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಸದಾ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯನ್ನು ಮೈಗೂಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಕಳಂಕ ಬಾರದಂತೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ವ್ಯಾಪಾರದ ಜೊತೆ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದೆ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಅವರು 1990ರಲ್ಲಿ ದೇರಳಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ ಅನ್ಸಾರ್ ವಾರಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಸನಾಬಿಲ್ ಪ್ರಿಂಟಿಂಗ್ ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾರತ್ ಪುಸ್ತಕಾಲಯವನ್ನು ತೆರೆದಿದ್ದರು. 1999ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಯ್ಲೆಂಜಿ ಮಾಸಿಕವನ್ನು ಹೊರತಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಲೇಖಕರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಅನೇಕ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಿ, ಆ ಕೃತಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ ಅನ್ಸಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೊಯ್ಲಾಂಜಿ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಮಾಲಕರಾಗಿ, ಸತತ 30 ವರ್ಷ ಅಲ್ ಅನ್ಸಾರ್ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಣ್ಗಾವಲಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಿ ಇಸ್ಲಾಮೀ ವಿಚಾರಧಾರೆ, ಆಚಾರ-ಕರ್ಮಗಳ ಪರಿಪಾಲಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ “ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಾರ್” ಎಂದೇ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು. ಮೊದಲ ಪತ್ನಿಯ ಅಗಲಿಕೆಯ ಬಳಿಕ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಿವಾಹವಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಮೊದಲ ಪತ್ನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಮತ್ತು ಒಬ್ಬ ಪುತ್ರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು.
ಇಂಡಿಯನ್ ಗ್ರಾಂಡ್ ಮುಫ್ತಿ ಸುಲ್ತಾನುಲ್ ಉಲಮಾ ಎ.ಪಿ. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಯಾರ್, ತಾಜುಲ್ ಉಲಮಾ ಉಳ್ಳಾಲ ತಂಙಳ್, ಬೇಕಲ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಯಾರ್, ಮಂಜನಾಡಿ ಅಬ್ಬಾಸ್ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಯಾರ್, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಖಾಝಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಕೋಟ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಯಾರ್ ಸಹಿತ ಅನೇಕ ಉಲಮಾಗಳ ಜೊತೆ ನಿಕಟ ಬಾಂಧವ್ಯ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಅವರು 2021ರ ಮೇ 10ರಂದು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧನರಾದರು.
