Ullala Mohidin Kunhi Haji, an exemplary figure in society, lived a life imbued with religious consciousness and humility. He quietly implemented his beliefs in his daily life and made significant contributions to the field of education, benefiting thousands of students.

Born on May 15, 1944, in Ullala to Muhammad and Mariamma, Mohidin Kunhi Haji completed his education up to the 5th standard in his village. As he entered his teenage years, he ventured into business and eventually became a prominent fish entrepreneur. However, his ambitions extended beyond business, encompassing educational, social, and religious fields. He later relocated from Ullala to Puttige near Moodbidri.

A strong advocate for education, Mohidin Kunhi Haji founded the Islahi Madrasah in Ullala in 1989 with the vision that every Muslim should understand the Qur’an and learn Arabic. This commitment led to the establishment of the Islahi Educational Trust in 1990. Understanding the importance of English education, he founded an English medium school and served as its founding president, dedicating 15 years to its development.

In 2005, alongside his daughter Mumtaz, son-in-law Muhammad Ashfaq, and daughter-in-law Shamsuddin Ismail, he established the Al Furkhan Educational Trust. This trust initiated the Al Furkhan Islamic English Medium School in Puttige, aiming to provide both religious and secular education on one campus, marking a revolutionary step in education in Moodbidri Taluk. Al Furqan Hifz School was started in 2010, focusing on helping students memorize the entire Quran.

Mohidin Kunhi Haji’s educational endeavors continued with the establishment of Al Furkhan PU Women’s College in 2015 and Al Furkhan Women’s Arabic College in 2016. This institution was notable for being the first to offer Alimiyat education in Arabic to women. In Al Furkhan CBSE School and PU Colleges, Arabic was made a compulsory second language.

In 2021, Al Furqan Educational Institute gained recognition as the only CBSE-accredited school affiliated with the Islamic University of Madinah, underscoring Mohidin Kunhi Haji’s dedication to combining religious and modern education, particularly emphasizing Arabic language studies.

His advocacy for Tawheed began in 1988, and he became actively involved with the Salafi organization. In 1992, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Ibrahim Khalil Masjid in Mangalore, notably allowing women to pray in the mosque. His contributions included building mosques and madrasas across the state, and he served as a general member of these institutions.

A philanthropist at heart, Mohidin Kunhi Haji engaged in numerous social services, including house construction, medical expenses, educational expenses, water system development, and road construction for the underprivileged. He campaigned against the dowry system, promoting simple marriages, and lived by these principles, setting an example for society.

Despite not being officially affiliated with any social organizations, he was deeply involved in social, religious, and educational activities in Mangalore, Uchila, Krishnapura, Moodbidri, and other areas. He was the founder chairman of the Al Furkhan Educational Trust, leading it until his last breath. He also held the position of treasurer in the Muslim Educational Institutions Federation (MEEF) and was a trustee of Masjid Ibrahim Khalil.

A dedicated member of the South Karnataka Salafi Movement organization, Mohidin Kunhi Haji exhibited a personality of religious devotion. He remained active in social service and was consistently engaged in Quran recitation and prayer, never seeking recognition or awards.

Mohidin Kunhi Haji’s wife, Zulekha, predeceased him. The couple had three sons—Muhammad Iqbal, Sameer, and Ahmed Nisar—and four daughters—Tahira, Mumtaz, Shabana, and Fauzia. His sons have followed in his footsteps as successful businessmen and are also active in religious and social activities. After his father’s passing, the second son, Sameer, became the chairman of the Al Furkhan Educational Trust. Among his daughters, Tahira is noted for her social service, and Mumtaz serves as the director of the Al Furkhan Educational Trust.

On March 25, 2022, Haji M. Mohidin Kunhi Ullala passed away at his home in Puttige. He was laid to rest at the Al Furqan Campus in Puttige, leaving behind a legacy of educational and social contributions that continue to inspire his community.

ಉದ್ಯಮದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ್ದ ಮೊಹಿದಿನ್ ಕುಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಉಳ್ಳಾಲ

ಅಪಾರ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತಿಕೆಯಿದ್ದರೂ ಕೂಡ ಅದನ್ನು ಒಂದಿನಿತೂ ತೋರ್ಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ಷಣವೂ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಉಳ್ಳಾಲ ಮೊಹಿದಿನ್ ಕುಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಪಡೆದವರಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟು ಹಾಕಿ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಧಾರೆ ಎರೆದ ಧೀಮಂತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಉಳ್ಳಾಲದ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್-ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1944ರ ಮೇ 15ರಂದು ಉಳ್ಳಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ್ದ ಮೊಹಿದಿನ್ ಕುಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಊರಲ್ಲೇ 5ನೆ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗೆ ಕಲಿತರು. ಹದಿಹರೆಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತಲೇ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಮತ್ಸ್ಯ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮಿದ ಅವರು ತನ್ನ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಮೀಸಲಿಡದೆ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಹಾಗೇ ತನ್ನ ವಾಸ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ಉಳ್ಳಾಲದಿಂದ ಮೂಡುಬಿದಿರೆ ಸಮೀಪದ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆಗೆ ಅವರು ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪ್ರೇಮಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮ್ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಕುರ್‌ಆನ್‌ನ ಅರ್ಥ ಅರಿಯಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಅರಬಿಕ್ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಕಲಿಯಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಸಮಾನ ಮನಸ್ಕರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡು 1989ರಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳ್ಳಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ಲಾಹೀ ಮದ್ರಸವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. 1990ರಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ಲಾಹೀ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು. ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಅಗತ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಮನಗಂಡು ಇಸ್ಲಾಹೀ ಆಂಗ್ಲಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಅದರ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ 15 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಶಕ್ತಿಮೀರಿ ಶ್ರಮಿಸಿದರು.

2005ರಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಪುತ್ರಿ ಮುಮ್ತಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅಳಿಯ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅಶ್ಫಾಕ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಪುತ್ರಿಯ ಮಾವ ಶಂಸುದ್ದೀನ್ ಇಸ್ಮಾಯೀಲ್ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡು ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್ (ರಿ) ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು. ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಒಂದೇ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಲೌಕಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀಡುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ 2005ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಇಸ್ಲಾಮೀ ಆಂಗ್ಲಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಒಂದೇ ಸೂರಿನಡಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀಡುವ ಮೂಡುಬಿದಿರೆ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಸಿಬಿಎಸ್‌ಇ ಶಾಲೆ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆಗೂ ಇದು ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಕುರ್‌ಆನನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಕಂಠಪಾಠ ಮಾಡುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ 2010ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಹಿಫ್ಝ್ ಶಾಲೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು.
2015ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಪಿಯು ವಿಮೆನ್ಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಮತ್ತು 2016ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ವಿಮೆನ್ಸ್ ಅರಬಿಕ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಥಮವಾಗಿ ಆಲಿಮಿಯತ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಅರಬಿಕ್ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆಗೂ ಇದು ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಸಿಬಿಎಸ್‌ಇ ಶಾಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪಿಯು ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಬಿಕ್ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಕಡ್ಡಾಯವಾಗಿ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
2021ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು ಮದೀನಾದ ಇಸ್ಲಾಮೀ ಯುನಿವರ್ಸಿಟಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅಂಗೀಕಾರಗೊಂಡ ಏಕೈಕ ಸಿಬಿಎಸ್‌ಇ ಶಾಲೆ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. ಹೀಗೆ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಲೌಖಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಅರಬಿಕ್ ಭಾಷಾ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ತಾನೊಬ್ಬ ನೈಜ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪ್ರೇಮಿ ಎಂದು ಸಾಬೀತುಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
1988ರಲ್ಲೇ ತೌಹೀದ್ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಸಲಫಿ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. 1992ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಖಲೀಲ್ ಮಸ್ಜಿದ್ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಪ್ರಥಮವಾಗಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಮಸೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮಾರ್ ಮಾಡುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು. ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಹಲವೆಡೆ ಮಸೀದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮದ್ರಸಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ ಅದರ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸದಸ್ಯನಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು.

ಕೊಡುಗೈ ದಾನಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕವಾಗಿಯೂ ಹಲವು ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಮನೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ, ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ವೆಚ್ಚ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ವೆಚ್ಚ, ನೀರಿನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ, ರಸ್ತೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮುಂತಾದ ಹಲವು ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ವರದಕ್ಷಿಣೆಯ ಪಿಡುಗಿನ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಜನಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಿ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ಸರಳ ವಿವಾಹಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ನೀಡಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ತನ್ನ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿತೋರಿಸಿ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ, ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕವಾಗಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೂ ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಉಚ್ಚಿಲ, ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಪುರ, ಮೂಡುಬಿದಿರೆ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಕಡೆ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
2005ರಲ್ಲಿ ಆರಂಭಗೊಂಡ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್‌ನ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ತನ್ನ ಕೊನೆಯ ಉಸಿರೆಳೆಯುವವರೆಗೆ ಆ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟನ್ನು ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಇನ್‌ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಶನ್ ಫೆಡರೇಶನ್ (ಮೀಫ್)ನ ಕೋಶಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಮಸ್ಜಿದ್ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಖಲೀಲ್‌ನ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಸೌತ್ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಲಫಿ ಮೂವ್‌ಮೆಂಟ್ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯುತ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದುಕೊಂಡು ಸಂಘಟನೆಯನ್ನು ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಪರೋಪಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಸಮಾಜಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಹೆಸರು, ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಂಬಲಿಸದೆ ಸದಾ ಕುರ್‌ಆನ್ ಪಾರಾಯಣ, ನಮಾರ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ತಲ್ಲೀನರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಮೊಹಿದಿನ್ ಕುಂಞಿ ಅವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಝುಲೇಖಾ ನಿಧನರಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಈ ದಂಪತಿಗೆ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಇಕ್ಬಾಲ್, ಸಮೀರ್, ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ನಿಸಾರ್ ಎಂಬ ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಮತ್ತು ತಾಹಿರಾ, ಮುಮ್ತಾರ್, ಶಬಾನಾ, ಫೌಝಿಯಾ ಎಂಬ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಮಂದಿ ಪುತ್ರಿಯರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಕೂಡ ತಂದೆಯಂತೆ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಂದೆಯ ಅಗಲಿಕೆಯ ಬಳಿಕ ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಪುತ್ರ ಸಮೀರ್ ಅಲ್‌ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್‌ನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪುತ್ರಿಯರ ಪೈಕಿ ತಾಹಿರಾ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮುಮ್ತಾರ್ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್‌ನ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 2022ರ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 25ರಂದು ಹಾಜಿ ಎಂ. ಮೊಹಿದಿನ್ ಕುಂಞಿ ಉಳ್ಳಾಲ ಅವರು ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸ್ವಗೃಹದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧನರಾದರು. ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆಯ ಅಲ್ ಫುರ್ಖಾನ್ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ದಫನ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನೆರವೇರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
