Muhammad Vaidyar, born on April 29, 1937, was the eldest son of Ayurveda Pandit KV Hussain Kunhi Vaidyar and Mariamma, from Kanatadaka near Vitla in Bantwala Taluk. He inherited the mantle of Ayurvedic medicine from his father and became a renowned practitioner in his own right.

Under the guidance of his father, Muhammad mastered the teachings of Ayurvedic medicine and followed in his footsteps with dedication and piety. His mother, Mariamma, known for her disciplined management of their large family according to religious principles, was deeply respected and loved throughout her life.

Muhammad Vaidyar married Havva of Machambadi in Manjeshwar and together they had two sons and two daughters. After his father’s passing, Muhammad continued the tradition of preparing Ayurvedic medicines, often crafting remedies himself at home. He employed several assistants who worked alongside him for many years, contributing to his practice.

His expertise extended to preparing various medicines such as Vayugulige, Churnas like Karpuradi and Triphala, oils including Ashwagandha oil, and formulations like Draksha Arishta. These medicines were highly sought after, not only by locals but also by people from Karnataka and Kerala who traveled to seek his treatment and purchase his remedies.

Known for his generosity, Muhammad Vaidyar followed in his father’s footsteps by providing medicine to many at discounted rates or free of charge, especially to those in need. He even went as far as covering bus fares for patients who couldn’t afford transportation to his clinic. His compassionate approach and dedication to healing endeared him to his community and beyond.

His treatments were known for their effectiveness, particularly in cases where couples struggled with infertility, leading to instances where many found success in conceiving after seeking his help. Grateful couples often returned joyfully to show him their newborns, a testament to his healing abilities.

Beyond his medical practice, Muhammad Vaidyar was multilingual, fluent in Tulu, Kannada, Malayalam, Sanskrit, and Urdu. He actively participated in community development, serving for many years on the Vitla-Alike School Development Committee and as the secretary of the Alike Juma Masjid. Known for his warm smile and universal respect, he transcended barriers of caste and religion, earning affection and trust as a community representative. His dedication was further evident in his service as a member of the Alika Gram Panchayat, a role he held twice.

In an era when local facilities were limited, Muhammad Vaidyar’s clinic in Vitla became a vital healthcare resource. He not only practiced medicine but also took charge of the medicines agency of Kotakkal Ayur Vaidya School, ensuring access to quality treatments for his patients.

Tragically, Muhammad Vaidyar’s life was cut short on November 5, 1997, following a fall that left him paralyzed after a month of bed rest. Despite his passing over 26 years ago, the people of Kanatadaka still cherish his memory, a testament to the impact of his sincere service and humble demeanor.

ಸರಳ ಸಜ್ಜನಿಕೆಯ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ಕಾನತಡ್ಕ

ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ವಿಟ್ಲ ಸಮೀಪದ ಕಾನತಡ್ಕ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿನ ಆಯುರ್ವೇದ ಪಂಡಿತ ಕೆ.ವಿ. ಹುಸೈನ್ ಕುಂಞಿ ವೈದ್ಯರ್-ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1937ರ ಎಪ್ರಿಲ್ 29ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದ ಕೆ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಕೂಡ ತಂದೆಯಂತೆಯೇ ಖ್ಯಾತ ಆಯುರ್ವೇದ ವೈದ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ತಂದೆಯಿಂದಲೇ ಒಲಿದ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಕರಗತ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ತಾಯಿಯಂತೆ ಧರ್ಮಿಷ್ಟ. ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರಾಯದಿಂದಲೇ ಧರ್ಮದ ಕಟ್ಟುಪಾಡಿನಂತೆ ಬಹಳ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಂಸಾರವನ್ನು ನಿಭಾಯಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿದ್ದ ತಾಯಿ ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮ ಬದುಕಿನ ಕೊನೆಯವರೆಗೂ ಜನರ ಅಪಾರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಗೆ ಭಾಜನರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಹುಸೈನ್ ಕುಂಞಿ ವೈದ್ಯರ್-ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಗೆ ಐದು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮತ್ತು ಐದು ಗಂಡು ಮಕ್ಕಳು. ಈ ಪೈಕಿ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ಮೊದಲಿಗರು. ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಮುಗಿಸುತ್ತಲೇ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.
ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರದ ಮಚ್ಚಂಬಾಡಿಯ ಹವ್ವಾರೊಡನೆ ಮಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ವೈವಾಹಿಕ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟರು. ಈ ದಂಪತಿಗೆ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಮತ್ತು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಪುತ್ರಿಯರು.

ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮರಣದ ಬಳಿಕವೂ ಆಯುರ್ವೇದ ಔಷಧ ತಯಾರಿ ಹಾಗೂ ರೋಗಿಗಳ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ಕೆಲವು ಔಷಧಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವತಃ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೆ ತಯಾರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನಗೆ ಸಹಾಯಕರಾಗಿ ಒಂದಷ್ಟು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ವರ್ಷಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ತಯಾರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವಾಯುಗುಳಿಗೆ ಸಹಿತ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಗುಳಿಗೆಗಳು, ಕರ್‌ಪುರಡಿ, ತ್ರಿಫಲ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಚೂರ್ಣಗಳು, ದಶಮೂಲ, ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾ ಅರಿಷ್ಟದಂತಹ ಹಲವು ಅರಿಷ್ಟಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಅಶ್ವಗಂಧ ತೈಲವೂ ಸೇರಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ತೈಲಗಳು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯದ್ದಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆಸುಪಾಸಿನ ಊರಿನವರು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇರಳದ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಕಡೆಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಾಗಿ, ಔಷಧಿ ಖರೀದಿಗಾಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಬಹುತೇಕ ಮಂದಿಗೆ ರಿಯಾಯಿತಿ ದರದಲ್ಲೇ ಔಷಧ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಸರಳ ಸಜ್ಜನಿಕೆಯ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಂತೆಯೇ ಬಡವರಿಂದ ನಯಾಪೈಸೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಔಷಧ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದುದು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ. ತನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಔಷಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಹೋಗಲು ಬಸ್ಸಿನ ಖರ್ಚನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದುದು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಗರ್ಭಧಾರಣೆಯಾಗದ ಅದೆಷ್ಟೋ ಸ್ತ್ರೀರೋಗ ಶಮನಕ್ಕೂ ಅವರು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಔಷಧ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಫಲಪ್ರದವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅನೇಕ ದಂಪತಿಗಳು ಸಂತಾನ ಭಾಗ್ಯದ ಆಸೆಯಿಂದ ಅವರ ಬಳಿಯಿಂದ ಔಷಧ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ದು ಗರ್ಭ ಧರಿಸಿ, ಹೆತ್ತು ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಕರೆತಂದು ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ನಿದರ್ಶನವೂ ಇದೆ.

ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ-ಮಲಾಮೆಯಲ್ಲದೆ ತುಳು, ಕನ್ನಡ, ಮಲಯಾಳಂ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ, ಉರ್ದು ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸುಲಲಿತವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಬಲ್ಲವರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷ ವಿಟ್ಲ-ಅಳಿಕೆ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ, ಅಳಿಕೆ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಸೆಕ್ರೆಟರಿಯಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಸದಾ ನಗುಮುಖದ ಜಾತಿ, ಧರ್ಮ ಭೇದವಿಲ್ಲದ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ಜನಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಯೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಅಳಿಕೆ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಅಂದು ಕಾನತಡ್ಕ ಸಹಿತ ಆಸುಪಾಸಿನ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಳಿ ದಿಬ್ಹ ಮಾಡಲು ಸೂಕ್ತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಕಾರಣ, ಜನರು ಅವರ ಬಳಿ ತೆರಳಿ ಕೋಳಿಗಳನ್ನು ದಿಬ್ಹ ಮಾಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅದೆಷ್ಟೋ ಮಂದಿ ಮಗು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಕೂಡಲೇ “ಪಾಲ್ ಕಿತಾಬು’ ಎಂಬ ಇಸ್ಲಾಮಿಕ್ ಗ್ರಂಥ ನೋಡಿಸಿ ಮಗುವಿನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ಮಾಹಿತಿ, ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ಆರ್‌ಎಂಪಿ ಆಯುರ್ವೇದಿಕ್ ಕೋರ್ಸ್ ಕಲಿತು ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಪತ್ರ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಬಳಿಕ “ಕೋಟಕ್ಕಲ್ ಆಯುರ್ ವೈದ್ಯ ಶಾಲಾ’ದ ಔಷಧಗಳ ಏಜೆನ್ಸಿಯನ್ನೂ ವಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ವಿಟ್ಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಲಿನಿಕ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ತೆರೆದಿದ್ದರು.

ಒಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಬಚ್ಚಲ ಕೋಣೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಹೊರ ಬರುವಾಗ ಎಡವಿ ಬಿದ್ದು ದೇಹದ ಒಂದು ಬದಿಯ ಚಲನಾ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಕಳಕೊಂಡು ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವವಾಯುವಿಗೆ ತುತ್ತಾಗಿ ತಿಂಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಹಾಸಿಗೆ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದ ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ 1997ರ ನವೆಂಬರ್ 5ರಂದು ಇಹಲೋಕ ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿದರು. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ವೈದ್ಯರ್ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿ 26 ವರ್ಷ ಕಳೆದರೂ ಕೂಡ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಕಾನತಡ್ಕ ಪರಿಸರದ ಜನರು ಅವರನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಅವರ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ಸೇವೆ, ಸರಳ ಸಜ್ಜನಿಕೆಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.
