Raziya was born on November 15, 1973, as the daughter of BK Moidin and Zainaba in Bellairu village of Mangaluru taluk. She completed her high school education at the local government high school. Raziya, the sister of journalist BM Hanif, developed a keen interest in reading and writing during her high school years.

Her literary journey began with the publication of her first story in Al Ansar magazine, based in Deralkatte, Mangalore. The story garnered attention and sparked discussions within the community. Subsequently, Raziya’s works, including stories, poetry, and essays, found a platform on Mangalore Akashvani. Her writings also graced the pages of leading newspapers across the country, earning her recognition and accolades, including prizes in various competitions.

Her debut collection of stories, titled “Mahar,” was published by Rupa Prakashan of Mysore. This collection was released in Mangalore posthumously. Additionally, Mysore Communication Publishing House published her anthology of Beary Folk Tales titled “Yerchigettero Kathe,” featuring ten stories. This collection marked a significant contribution to Beary Folk Tale literature, following the footsteps of researcher Dr. Sushila Upadhyay’s work in 2006. The anthology was released at the Sahitya Sammelan after her passing.

Raziya wrote under various pen names, including Razia Moodthota, Razia Bellairu, and Kundapura. After her marriage to SJB Koya of the Koya family of Navunda, she adopted the pen name “Razia SJB” for her writings.

Raziya passed away on January 7, 2005, leaving behind her husband SJB and their son, Syed Abubakar Muttalib Koya.
