Someswara Uchila G.M. Hasinaar

1921 – 1991

Born in 1921 in Someshwara Uchila Gudde, Mangalore Taluk, GM Hasinaar, affectionately known as “Abbonichcha,” left an indelible mark in various aspects of community life.

Despite having only primary education, Hasinaar displayed remarkable entrepreneurial skills from a young age. He established a thriving grocery store in Uchila, which became a favorite among villagers from neighboring areas like Kinya, Kotekar, and Talapadi. Beyond mere commerce, he endeared himself to the community by offering fair prices and even distributing free rations to the needy.

Hasinaar’s commitment to education and community welfare was exemplary. Recognizing the transformative power of education, he played a pivotal role in establishing a government school in Uchila and generously donated land for the Bovi Samaj High School. Additionally, he spearheaded the founding of Ekopadhyaya School and Rahmania English Medium School, providing valuable educational opportunities to the youth of the region.

In addition to his educational endeavors, Hasinaar actively participated in religious and social affairs. He held key leadership positions in organizations such as the Uchila Juma Masjid and Rahmaniya Masjid, contributing significantly to their development and outreach efforts. His vision for communal harmony and secularism inspired many, as he worked tirelessly to foster unity among diverse communities.

Hasinaar’s impact extended beyond education and religion. He was also recognized for his progressive agricultural practices, which served as a model for other farmers in the region. Furthermore, his foray into politics saw him become a member of the Ullala Mandal Panchayat, where he dedicated himself to public service and community development initiatives.

Despite his many achievements, Hasinaar remained humble and approachable, earning widespread respect for his simple demeanor and unwavering dedication to the betterment of society.

He mingled with everyone without distinction of caste, creed, clan, or downtrodden. He had a very simple personality and as a political, social and religious leader, he remains in the minds of the locals even today.

He was an ally of U.T. Fareed’s father-in-law, Kadabakar Harja, and when UT Fareed first contested for the assembly from Ullal constituency, he worked hard for victory.

He loved Ghazal and Shayari and used to participate in its Mehfil. The one who instilled this hobby in him was his close friend and household name Abbullah (father of Rahim Uchhil) through his beedi branch. There was a large gathering of these friends, and in the evening he used to meet in his shop for the upliftment of the community, the problem of the town, its solution, and Raji Panchayat

In 1991, Hasinaar passed away after a brief illness, leaving behind his wife, four daughters, and two sons.
