About:
People from South Kanara, now called Dakishna Kannada, united with the intention of serving and uplifting the community. The association aims to organize and unite all Muslim expatriates from South Kanara, Karnataka, fostering a spirit of cooperation for the welfare of the community. Initially focused on providing marriage funds for poor and needy Muslim girls, the scope has expanded to include healthcare, education, and shelter.
Mission:
The primary goal of SKMWA is to provide support to community members facing significant challenges, especially in housing, healthcare, and education. The association prioritizes offering shelter relief to families who have struggled without adequate housing, ensuring they have a safe place to live, believing this stability is crucial for improving their quality of life.
Objectives:
- Promote education, both religious and professional, and provide scholarships.
- Organize social gatherings, competitions, and lectures to enhance members’ knowledge.
- Host sports events and Eid gatherings for social and community development.
- Raise funds through subscriptions and donations for the association.
- Cooperate with similar organizations in Qatar and India.
- Take steps to enhance the physical, social, economic, and civic conditions of members.
- Undertake acts necessary to achieve the aforementioned objectives in accordance with Qatar and Indian laws.
Achievements:
In addition to its housing efforts, SKMWA addresses critical health issues within the community by providing financial assistance to support healthcare access. The association focuses on promoting secular education initiatives to ensure that all children and young adults have access to quality education for their holistic development. It has also jointly conducted and participated in mass marriage ceremonies for the community.
Moreover, SKMWA organizes blood donation camps and community-building activities, such as sports events and family gatherings, to foster a sense of belonging, encourage healthy living, and strengthen unity among members.
SKMWA’s commitment to enhancing community well-being and fostering inclusivity is evident in its activities, including the donation of a dialysis machine to a government hospital.
In 2021, the association constructed a housing colony of eight houses near Panakaje, Belthangady Taluk, which were allocated to needy families in 2022. Since its formation, the association has distributed over 30 houses to families in need and continues to work on ongoing projects. Furthermore, it provides monetary aid for relief in the event of natural disasters.
