Vitla Muhammad Haji

Muhammad Haji, born on January 12, 1947, in Marnami Gudde near Vitla, Bantwala Taluk to Marnamigudde Pakeera Saheb (Kuttachha) and Saramma, faced early struggles due to poverty. Despite limited education, he embarked on a journey that led him to become a respected police officer and community leader.
Initially reluctant to join the police force, Muhammad Haji eventually followed his father’s wish and became a constable. His career spanned various stations and roles, including service in Kankanady Police Station, Moodbidire, Kadaba, Kundapura, Puttur, and Mangalore Traffic Station. Over time, he climbed the ranks to retire as a Sub Inspector, leaving a lasting impact on law enforcement and the communities he served.
Beyond his duties as a police officer, Muhammad Haji remained deeply committed to serving his community after retirement. He actively participated in religious and social organizations, holding positions such as Treasurer of the Dakshina Kannada District Retired Police Officers Welfare Association, President of Batte Central Juma Masjid, and Honorary President of Vitla Juma Masjid. Additionally, he played pivotal roles in organizations like the Mangalore Haj Management Committee and served as an election officer for mosque-madrasas.
Muhammad Haji’s dedication to public service earned him endearing nicknames like “Police Monichcha” and “Police Kaka,” reflecting the affection and respect he garnered from the community. He left behind his wife Dilshad and three daughters on September 10, 2020.
