K.P. Abdullah Puttur

On December 30, 1933, K.P. Abdullah was born as the son of Sannapalli Beary-Halima, a zamindar of Aryapu village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. He received his primary education in Kunjur Panja and completed his PUC at Puttur Board High School. Afterward, K.P. Abdullah pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mangalore Government College. Later, he graduated in Law from Government Law College, Mumbai.
At that time, K.P. Abdullah earned the distinction of being the first Beary to earn his law degree and begin his legal career in Puttur, Belthangadi, and Sullia taluks. He established his office in Puttur in 1963 and commenced practicing as a lawyer, gaining recognition in both civil and criminal fields. As he interacted more with people, he began addressing their issues and quietly engaged in social service. Additionally, he developed an interest in politics and joined the Congress party.
Abdullah served as the President of Puttur Block Congress for a significant period from 1975 to 1997. During this time, he developed close relationships with notable politicians such as Janardana Pujari, Veerappa Moily, SM Yahya, UT Farid, BM Idinabba, and KS Muhammad Masood. Furthermore, he served as a member of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) twice.
He contested on a Congress ticket from Bantwala in 1983 and the Vitla Vidhan Sabha constituency in 1987, narrowly losing on both occasions.
Abdullah was active in social, political, and religious spheres. In politics, people from various communities often approached him to mediate and resolve disputes. He consistently intervened and successfully resolved these conflicts.
After nearly four decades of practicing law and engaging in public life, Abdullah was recognized as an upright politician. He passed away on August 6, 2003, leaving behind his wife Ummalimamma, two sons, and two daughters.
