P. Noor Muhammad was a rare personality who made writing and especially translation a hobby and lived with a pen till his last breath. Noor Muhammad is one of the persons who cultivated the interest of literature in his youth and dedicated several works to the Kannada world.

Noor Muhammad was born on February 16, 1942 in Padil, Puttur Taluk as the third of nine children of Moidin Kutty and Khadija. He completed his primary education from Government Higher Primary School, Uppinangadi, PUC from Philomena College, Puttur and B.Sc from Government College, Mangalore University with top rank. Just then father Moidin Kutty died. Immediately he was faced with the necessity of continuing his father’s hotel business. So he left the opportunity of government employment and became successful in the hotel industry.

Noor Muhammad, who had a taste for literature while still in college, started writing continuously in the newspaper “Nava Bharat”. Despite the pressure of the hotel industry, he started writing against superstition, immorality, illegality and injustice.

In 1975, P. Noor Muhammad established a platform for his literary endeavors under the auspices of the Uppinangady Islamic Collaboral Association. Through this platform, he published several books, including “Abdul Qader Jilani,” “Form and Truth,” “Muslim One Party,” “Turkman Gate Tragedy,” and “Hadith Stories,”

In 1986, Noor Muhammad established the Jyoti Publishing House, through which he published translated works such as “Seremane Inda Maseedige,” “Sathya Mithya,” “Kutumba Jeevana,” and “Mahapurusharu”. His proficiency in languages such as Malayalam, Urdu, and English enabled him to deliver more than fifty translated works to the Kannada-speaking audience. Notably, he translated four volumes out of the six volumes of the renowned book “Tafimul Qur’an,” delving into topics ranging from Indian culture to marital life and the Quran’s teachings on solar and afterlife concepts.

P. Noor Muhammad was characterized by his straightforwardness, precision, and modesty, traits that endeared him to his peers. Despite dedicating four decades to the literary field, he shunned the limelight and remained humble, eschewing publicity and recognition. He quietly distributed literature to dispel misconceptions about Islam.

In addition to his literary pursuits, Noor Muhammad actively contributed to various organizations, including Jamat Islami Hind Uppinangadi, Hidayat Charitable Trust, Sanmarga Publication Trust, Shanti Prakashan, Muslim Authors Association, Interest-Free Loan and Welfare Institution, Aisha Education Trust, and Masjidul Huda.
