Aminamma Bastipaddu Ullal

1958 – 2020

Born in 1958 as the daughter of Umarabba and Atijamma in Ullala Akkarakare, Aminamma found her home in Bastipadu, Ullala, after marrying Musa Kunhi. In a time when many Muslim women were confined to domestic roles, Aminamma ventured into social service in her twenties, displaying immense compassion for the underprivileged. Even when she lacked personal resources, she mobilized support from others to assist those in need, whether it was building houses or providing medical treatment. Her generosity extended even to strangers, reflecting her altruistic nature.

Though formal schooling eluded her, Aminamma received education in madrasas, which she integrated into her life. Despite her devout religious adherence, she actively engaged with the community, addressing their concerns and lending a helping hand wherever possible.

For over four decades, Aminamma remained a steadfast companion to her community, earning the affectionate moniker ‘Amina Umma’ for her selfless dedication to social welfare. Known for her virtuous character, profound religious knowledge, and faith, she served as a beacon of inspiration by participating in religious discourses, Quranic studies, and Hadith classes.

Aminamma played a pivotal role in performing the last rites for unidentified women, particularly those discovered in the sea near Ullala. Her influence encouraged many women to participate in the ritual bathing of deceased bodies. Numerous organizations in Ullala and Mangalore recognized her invaluable contributions to society, honoring her with accolades for her tireless service.

On July 20, 2020, at the age of 62, Aminamma passed away survived by four sons and two daughters.
