Yadapadavu Abdul Khader Haji
1930 – 2020
K. Abdul Khader Haji’s life is a testament to his dedication to uplifting the lives of beedi workers and their families. Despite being born into poverty, he ventured into the fish business before transitioning to a grocery store and beedi branch in Maradangadi, alongside his brother. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to secure the lease of Bharat Beedi and later Prakash Beedi, relocating his operations to Yadapadavu. He was born on 1930 at Nudottu of Muttur Kolavuru Village, Mangalore TQ. His father was Hasanabba and mother Khateeja.
In Yadapadavu, he became a pillar of support for over a thousand beedi workers and their families, supplying them with millions of beedis each week. Notably, he fostered a spirit of unity among Hindu traders, who contributed to his beedi branch. Recognizing the dire living conditions of many workers, he spearheaded initiatives to construct homes for them, such as the Beedi Site Colony.
Abdul Khader Haji’s philanthropic efforts extended beyond economic support. He played a key role in establishing the Ummahatul Mumineen Juma Masjid under the Darussalam Welfare Association of Edapada, serving as its honorary president since 1998. Additionally, he facilitated religious education by starting madrasa classes and arranging for deen classes and prayers at his own home.
Despite his success, Abdul Khader Haji remained humble and lived a simple life. His commitment to social and religious causes left a lasting impact on the community. He passed away on July 8, 2020, leaving behind his wife Havvamma and two daughters.
