Althaf Hussain is a distinguished actor and producer, renowned for his significant contributions to Indian cinema. Born as the youngest child to Hasan and Khatheeja in Thannirbhavi, Mangaluru, Karnataka, his family later relocated to Chokkabettu, Krishnapura, near to Surathkal.

From a young age, Althaf nurtured a fervent passion for acting and film-making. This dream took a tangible shape when he ventured into film production under his own banner, ‘Thannir Films.’ His debut project was a Kannada feature film named “Chaithra.” However, the film was discontinued halfway, leaving his dreams momentarily shattered.

Undeterred, Althaf transitioned into the business world, founding Al-Shaz, a company specializing in bolt torquing industrial services. Despite his success as a businessman, his desire to act and produce films remained undiminished.

In 2010, Althaf reignited his cinematic aspirations by producing and starring in a film in the Beary language, aptly titled “BYARI“. Released on June 9, 2011, in theatres across the Dakshina Kannada region, “BYARI” holds the distinction of being the first-ever feature film in the Beary language.

The film garnered positive reviews and was showcased at various film festivals, earning widespread acclaim. Among approximately 900 feature films nationwide, “BYARI” was honored with the 59th National Film Award, the prestigious ‘GOLDEN LOTUS.’

The film also received the Karnataka State Award in 2012 in the Samajika Parisara Chithra Category and the SAARC Film Bronze Award at the 2012 Colombo Film Festival in Sri Lanka, marking its international recognition.

“BYARI” represented Indian cinema at numerous film festivals globally, including in China, the United Kingdom, the USA, and Canada, as well as across major Indian cities such as Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Trivandrum, and Goa.

In 2019, Althaf produced a Malayalam film named “Vari,” which won the Kerala State Award for Best Script. The film was subsequently released on an OTT platform, further showcasing his versatility and commitment to high-quality cinema.
