ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಮುಂಚೂರು

ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಪ್ರಪ್ರಥಮ ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್

ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಪ್ರಪ್ರಥಮ ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ (C.A.) ಎಂಬ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಮುಂಚೂರು ಅವರು 1940 ಜನವರಿ 5ರಂದು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಸಮೀಪದ ಮುಂಚೂರು ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂದಿನ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಇವರ ತಂದೆ ಹಾಜಿ ಕುದ್ರು ಅಹಮದ್ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಒಂದು ದಂತ ಕತೆಯೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ ಅತಿಶಯೋಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಲಾರದು. ನಿರಕ್ಷರಸ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಇವರ ತಂದೆ 1920 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಉದ್ಯಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಷಿಕರಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರು ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ ವಿದೇಶಿ ಕಂಪನಿ ಮೂಲದ ಎಲೆ ಮಡಲು ಪ್ಲಾಂಟೇಶನ್ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳ ಡೀಲರ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದು, ಸಗಟು ಮಳಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಸಹ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಪರಿಸರದಲ್ಲಿ ನೂರಾರು ಎಕರೆ ಜಮೀನು ಕೂಡ ಇತ್ತು. ಅಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ಒಬ್ಬ ಅರಸರಂತೆ ಬದುಕಿದವರು. ದಾನ ಧರ್ಮಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ಫಾತಿಮಾ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ಕುಟುಂಬದಿಂದ ಬಂದವರು. ಅವರು ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್‌ನ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಹಾಜಿಯವರ ಮೊಮ್ಮಗಳು. ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ‘ಹಾಜಾರಗ’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದರರ್ಥ “ಹಾಜಿಯವರ ಮನೆ”, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವರು ಆ ಗ್ರಾಮದಿಂದ ಹಜ್ ಯಾತ್ರೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಮೊದಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ. ವಿಶೇಷವೆಂದರೆ ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದ 17 ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಬಹಳ ಹಿಂದೆ, ಅಂದರೆ 18ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ಉತ್ತರಾರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹಜ್‌ನ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡವರು.

ಫಾತಿಮಾ ಅವರು ಆ ಕಾಲದ ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಮಸೀದಿ ಮದ್ರಸಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲದ ಅಂದಿನ ಮುಂಚೂರು ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಿಗೆ ಇಸ್ಲಾಮಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು.

1951ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಜ್ ಕರ್ಮ ‌ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಮಕ್ಕಾಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್‌ರವರ ತಂದೆ .ಅಹಮದ್ ಬ್ಯಾರಿಯವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ಬೀಸಿದ ಬಿಸಿ ಗಾಳಿಗೆ ತುತ್ತಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲೇ ನಿಧನ ಹೊಂದಿದರು. ಆಗ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ 10 ವರ್ಷದ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಬಾಲಕ. ತಂದೆಯ ಮರಣಾನಂತರ ಇವರ ಅಣ್ಣ ಇದಿನಬ್ಬ ಯಾನೆ ಉಂಞಾಕ ಮುಂಚೂರು ಅವರು ತಂದೆಯ ಉದ್ಯಮ ವ್ಯವಹಾರಗಳ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ರವರ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮುಂದುವರಿಕೆಗೆ ಬೆಂಬಲ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಅವರ ಒಂದರಿಂದ ಐದನೇ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗಿನ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಹಳೆಯ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯಿತು. ಪ್ರೌಢ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಆರನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಿಂದ ಮೆಟ್ರಿಕ್ಯುಲೇಷನ್ ತನಕ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್‌ನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ವಿದ್ಯಾದಾಯಿನಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಆಗಿನ ಮೆಟ್ರಿಕ್ಯುಲೇಷನ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಅದು 11ನೇ ತರಗತಿ ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ಇವರು ಮೆಟ್ರಿಕ್ಯುಲೇಷನ್ ಕಲಿಯುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾದಾಯಿನಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಮದ್ರಾಸು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು.

ಮುಂಚೂರಿನಿಂದ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್‌ಗೆ ಅಂದಾಜು 5 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರವಿದ್ದು, ಇವರು ಕಾಲ್ನಡಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾದಾಯಿನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಇವರ ಜೊತೆಗಿದ್ದ ಏಕೈಕ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ, ಇವರ ಸಹಪಾಠಿ ಮರ್ಹೂಮ್ ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಪಿ. ಕೆ. ಉಸ್ಮಾನ್ ಕುಕ್ಕಾಡಿ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅಂದಿನ ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಕಲಿಕೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಅಸಡ್ಡೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿರೋಧವೂ ಇತ್ತು. ಇವೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಮೀರಿ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತರಾಗಲು ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ಫಾತಿಮಾ ಕಾರಣಕರ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಮುಂದಿದ್ದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಗಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಹಾಗೂ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರುಗಳ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಶಿಷ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಆಗಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಲ್ಕಿ ವಿಜಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಇದ್ದದ್ದು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಬಜಪೆಯಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಕಾಲೇಜು ತೆರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್‌ರವರ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಯಿತು. ಆ ವರ್ಷ ಬಜಪೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಬಜಪೆಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಕಾದದ್ದು ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಸೇರಿದರೆ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸೂಕ್ತ ವಸತಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದೇ ಬಜಪೆಯಲ್ಲಾದರೆ ನಿಕಟ ಬಂಧುಗಳ ಮನೆಯಿತ್ತು. ಆ ನಂತರ ಇವರು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಕಾಲೇಜು / ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಷಿಯಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಕಾಂ ಪದವೀಧರರಾದರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ‘ಬಗಡೆ ಶಾಂತಾರಾಮ್ ರಾವ್’ ಅವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ 1970ರಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ಸಿ.ಎ. ಪಾಸಾದರು. ಅದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಇವರು ಕಾನೂನು ಪದವೀಧರರು ಸಹ ಆದರು. ಉಡುಪಿ ಲಾ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿತು ಬಿಎಲ್ ಪಾಸಾದ ಇವರು ಮೈಸೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ರ್ರ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಗಳಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

1971ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಭಾರತ್ ಹೆವಿ ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಾನಿಕ್ಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಂತರಿಕ ಆಡಿಟ್ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೀನಿಯರ್ ಆಡಿಟರ್ ಆಗುವುದರ ಮೂಲಕ ಇವರ ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. 1983ರವರೆಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್‌ರವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹುದ್ದೆಗೆ ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆ ನೀಡಿ ಗಲ್ಫ್ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಬಹರೈನ್‌ಗೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಅರಸಿ ಹೋದರು. ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ಬಹರೈನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಅಲಿ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ಲಾ ಕರೀಮ್ ಎಂಡ್ ಸನ್ಸ್’ ಎಂಬ ಕಂಪನಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷದಷ್ಟು ಅವಧಿಯ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಇವರು ಆನಂತರ ಬಹರೈನ್‌ನ ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ ಕಂಪನಿ ‘ಹಾಜಿ ಹಸನ್ ಅಲಿಯುಲ್ಲಾ ಅಲಿ’ ಕಂಪನಿಗೆ ಚೀಫ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಗೊಂಡರು. 19 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅದೇ ಕಂಪನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. 1992 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹರೈನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಸೇರಿ ‘ಸೌತ್ ಕೆನರಾ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್’ ಎಂಬ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು. ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್‌ರವರು ಬಹರೈನ್‌ನಿಂದ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ 2002ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುವವರೆಗೂ ಅದರ ಕೋಶಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆ ಸಂಘಟನೆ ಅತಿ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟೂರು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಬಡ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮದುವೆಗೆ, ಬಡ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸಹಾಯವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಬಹರೈನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಣ್ಣಪುಟ್ಟ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತುರ್ತು ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಡ್ಡಿರಹಿತ ಸಾಲವನ್ನು ಸಹ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬೀಳ್ಕೊಡುವಾಗ ಈ ಸಂಘಟನೆ ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿದ ಸಮಾರಂಭ ಹೃದಯಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅಂದು ಇವರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಸನ್ಮಾನ ಪತ್ರ ಈಗಲೂ ಇವರ ಬಳಿ ಜೋಪಾನವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ರವರು ಕೆಲವು ಉದ್ಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಮುಂದೆ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಇತರರಿಗೆ ವಹಿಸಿ ಈಗ ನಿವೃತ್ತ ಜೀವನ ಸಾಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ವೆಲ್ಫೇರ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್‌ನ ಕೋಶಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಇವರು ನಿರಂತರ ಹತ್ತು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ

ಇವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಬಿ. ಎಂ. ಜಮೀಲ ಸಹ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಕುಟುಂಬದಿಂದ ಬಂದವರು. ಇವರು ಮೂಲ್ಕಿ ಮೂಲದ, ಆನಂತರ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬೋಳಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯವಿದ್ದ, ಉದ್ಯಮಿ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಮುಂದಾಳು ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ಅವಧಿಗೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ ಪುರಾತನ ಝೀನತ್ ಬಕ್ಷ್ ಜುಮ್‌ಅ ಮಸೀದಿಯ (ಬೆಲಿಯೊ ಪಳ್ಳಿ) ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮರ್ಹೂಮ್ ಬಿ. ಎಂ. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ ಇಸ್ಮಾಯಿಲ್‌ರವರ ಪುತ್ರಿ. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಗಂಡು ಮತ್ತು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳು.

ಇವರ ಮಗ ಅಹಮದ್ ಝಕೀರ್ ಸಿವಿಲ್ /ಸಾಫ್ಟ್‌ವೇರ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸಮೇತ ಅಮೆರಿಕದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದ ಪೌರತ್ವವೂ ಸಹ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಅಹಮದ್ ಝಕೀರ್‌ರವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಮುನಾ ಹೆಜಮಾಡಿ ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹುರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಂಪನಿಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಐಟಿ ಮೇನೇಜರ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಇವರ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮಗಳು ಝೀನತ್ ಮುಂಚೂರು. ಇವರ ಪತಿ ಡಾ. ಅಝೀಝ್ ಮುಸ್ತಫಾ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಎರಡನೇ ಮಗಳು ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಝಾಕಿರ. ಇವರ ಪತಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಉದ್ಯಮಿ ಆಸಿಫ್ ಉಸ್ಮಾನ್ ಟೀಕೆ.

ಮೂರನೇ ಮಗಳು ಜಬೀನ. ಇವರ ಪತಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಕಾಸಿಮ್ ಪಾಲ್ಕೆ, ಕಾನೂನು ಪದವೀಧರರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಉದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಮಗಳು ಝಾಹಿದ. ಇವರ ಪತಿ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ಲಾ ಮಾದುಮೂಲೆ ಓರ್ವ ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದು, ಅವರು ಅಬುಧಾಬಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 25 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ವಿವಿಧ ಅರೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿ ಈಗ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಮರಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿದ ನಂತರ, ಅವರು ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಪಂಪ್ ಮತ್ತು ಹಾಲಿನ ಡೈರಿಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಯಾಗಿ ಬದಲಾದರು. ಅವರ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತ ಉದ್ಯಮ – ಪ್ರೀಮಿಯಂ ಸ್ಪ್ರಿಂಗ್ ವಾಟರ್ ಪ್ರಾಜೆಕ್ಟ್ – ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗಲಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದು ವಿಶ್ವದಲ್ಲೇ ಮೊದಲನೆಯದು ಎಂದು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ 85 ವರ್ಷ ಪ್ರಾಯದ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಮುಂಚೂರುರವರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಪತ್ನಿ ಜಮೀಲರೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಈಗಲೂ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ಖಾದರ್ ಮುಂಚೂರು ನಮ್ಮ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಓರ್ವ ಮಾದರಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ. ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯವು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದಿದ್ದ ಆ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಬಿ.ಕಾಂ, ಸಿಎ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾನೂನು ಪದವಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾದರು. ಅವರ ಜೀವನದಿಂದ ನಾವು ಕಲಿಯಬಹುದಾದ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಾಠವೆಂದರೆ ಅವರು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಶಿಸ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ತನ್ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಧಿಸಿದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬನೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯವು ಇವರ ಈ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಗುಣವನ್ನು ಅನುಕರಿಸಬೇಕು.

Abdul Khader Munchoor

The First Chartered Accountant of the Beary Community

Abdul Khader Munchoor, who holds the distinction of being the first Chartered Accountant (C.A.) from the Beary community, was born on January 5, 1940, in the village of Munchoor, near Suratkal in Dakshina Kannada district. He was born into one of the wealthiest families of the time. His father, Haji Kudru Ahmad Beary, is often described in legendary terms – not as an exaggeration, but as a reflection of his stature. Though uneducated, Ahmad Beary became a prominent entrepreneur and agriculturist by the 1920s. He was a dealer in plantation products from a reputed foreign company ‘Yelamadalu Estate’ and owned a wholesale shop as well. He possessed hundreds of acres of land around the Suratkal-Baikampady area and lived a life comparable to royalty. He was highly respected for his generous donations and philanthropy.

Abdul Khader’s mother, Fatima, came from a wealthy and respected family. She was the grand daughter of Abdul Khader Haji of Surathkal. Their family home is still known as ‘HAAJAARAGA’ meaning “House of the Haji,” as he was the first person from the village to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. Remarkably, he was accompanied by seventeen of his relatives, all of whom undertook the sacred journey of Haj together in the 18th century.

Fatima was a well-educated woman – a rare distinction for her time. At a period when Munchoor had no mosques or madrasas, she took the initiative to provide Islamic religious education to Muslim families in the village, reflecting her deep commitment to faith and community service.

In 1951, while performing Hajj in Mecca, Abdul Khader’s father, Ahmad Beary passed away unexpectedly due to a severe heatwave. At that time, Abdul Khader was just a 10-year-old boy. Following this loss, his elder brother Idinabba (Unnjaaka Munchoor) took over the family business and supported Abdul Khader’s education.

Abdul Khader completed his primary education (1st to 5th standard) at the Panchayat Board School on the old road in Suratkal. His secondary education (6th to Matriculation) was pursued at the reputed Vidyadayinee Educational Institution in Suratkal. Back then, “Matriculation” referred to the 11th standard, and the school was affiliated with the University of Madras.

The distance between Munchoor and Suratkal was around 5 kilometers, which he covered on foot daily. While studying at Vidyadayinee, he had only one other Muslim classmate – the late Dr. P. K. Usman Kukkadi. At that time, there was significant resistance and disregard within the Beary community toward English education. It was his mother Fatima’s vision and encouragement that enabled Abdul Khader to pursue his studies against the tide.

He excelled in Kannada and was the top scorer in his class. He was a favourite student of his teachers.

In those days, except for Mulki Vijaya College, the nearest colleges were located in Mangalore. Hoping that a Christian institution in Bajpe would soon start a college, Abdul Khader had to pause his education for a year, waiting in vain. Since his family didn’t have proper accommodation in Mangalore, they preferred Bajpe due to the presence of close relatives. Eventually, he resumed his education at St. Aloysius College / Govt. College in Mangalore, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree. After that under the mentorship of the renowned Mangalore-based Chartered Accountant ‘Bagade Shantharam Rao’, he passed the C.A. exam in 1970. Additionally he earned a Law degree also from Udupi Law College and he was a rank holder from Mysore University.

In 1971, Abdul Khader began his professional career as a Senior Auditor in the Internal Audit Department of Bharat Heavy Electronics (BHEL) in Bangalore. He served there until 1983, after which he resigned and moved to Gulf Nation Bahrain seeking better opportunities.

In Bahrain, he initially joined ‘Ali Abdulla Kareem & Sons’ and later moved to the prestigious company ‘Haji Hassan Aliulla Ali’, where he worked as Chief Accountant for 19 years.

In 1992, the Muslims of Dakshina Kannada residing in Bahrain came together to establish the ‘South Kanara Muslim Association.’ Abdul Khader was one of the founding members and served as the Treasurer of the association until his returned to India in 2002. The association, which still functions efficiently, provides financial assistance for poor Muslim girls’ marriages and education for underprivileged children in Dakshina Kannada. It also offers interest-free emergency loans to individuals employed in Bahrain. The farewell event organized in his honor when he left Bahrain was emotionally moving, and the ‘Letter of Honor’ he received on that occasion is still preserved by him.

After settling in Bangalore, Abdul Khader ventured into several businesses, which he later handed over to other family members. He has since been leading a retired life. During this period, he also served as the Treasurer of the Bearys Welfare Association in Bangalore for ten consecutive years.

His wife, B. M. Jameela, hails from a distinguished family. She is the daughter of late B. M. Abubakar Ismail – a respected businessman, prominent social leader, and former President of the administrative board of the historic Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid, popularly known as “Beliya Palli” in Mangalore. Originally from Mulki, he later settled in the Bolar area of Mangalore.

The couple has one son and four daughters:

Son: Ahmad Zakir, a civil/software engineer, currently resides in the United States with his family and has acquired American citizenship. His wife Muna Hejamady, an IT Manager at a MNC at USA.

Eldest daughter: Zeenath Munchoor, married to Dr. Azeez Mustafa, who works at Bearys Educational Institutions in Mangalore.

Second daughter: Dr. Zakira, married to Asif Usman Teekay, a businessman based in Bangalore.

Third daughter: Jabeena, married to Abdul Kasim Palke, a law graduate and businessman in Bangalore.

Youngest daughter: Zahida, married to Abdullah Madumoole. Abdulla Madumoole is a Chartered Accountant who worked for various semi govt organizations in Abu Dhabi for 25 years and now back in India. Upon returning to India, he transitioned into a successful entrepreneur, managing a petrol pump and a milk dairy. His most anticipated venture – a premium spring water project – is set to launch soon and is expected to be the first of its kind in the world

Now 85 years old, Abdul Khader Munchoor lives in Bangalore with his wife Jameela and remains actively involved in social activities.

Abdul Khader Munchoor is a role model for our Beary community. Those days when Beary community was very backward in education he managed to complete B.com, CA and law. The biggest lesson we can learn from his life is his financial independence achieved through his financial discipline in his life – our community should emulate this rarest quality.
