B.M. Haneef Honoured with Karnataka Rajyotsava Award 2025

B.M. Haneef, a distinguished journalist, writer, and organizer, has been selected for the prestigious Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in the field of media. Recognized for his remarkable contributions to journalism and Kannada literature, Mr. Haneef has earned a reputation as a multifaceted and resourceful personality across the state.
Born on December 12, 1961, in Bellayaru, Haleangadi village of Mangalore taluk, to B.K. Moidinabba and Zainaba, B.M. Haneef is known for his eloquence as a speaker and his insightful perspectives as a media professional. A Bachelor of Commerce graduate, he began his journalistic career in 1984 as Sub-Editor at the Mungaru daily. In 1989, he joined Prajavani, one of Karnataka’s leading newspapers, where he served as Sub-Editor, Reporter, and Head of the Business Section and Business Supplement.
Later, he became the Bureau Chief of Prajavani in Mysuru before being promoted to Assistant Editor and transferred to Bengaluru, where he also headed the Sudha weekly magazine. During his career, he underwent advanced training in Business Journalism at the International Institute of Journalism, Germany.
Though a journalist by profession, B.M. Haneef is equally known as a storyteller and poet by passion. His literary contributions include collections of short stories, poems, columns, and analytical essays, making him a familiar name in Kannada literary circles.
He has served as a member of the Advisory Board for the Beary–Kannada–English Dictionary and was an Executive Committee Member of The Bearys Welfare Association, Bengaluru. He also edited the association’s publication Beary Times. Additionally, he served on the Bengaluru Doordarshan Film Censor Committee and the Karnataka State Film Awards Selection Committee.
Over the years, B.M. Haneef has received numerous honors, including the Toulava Award from the Bengaluru Tulu Koota, the Madhyama Mandara State Award from the Dambal Swamiji Cultural Foundation (Gadag), the Karavali Siri Award from the Karavali Union, Bengaluru, the Karnataka Press Academy Honorary Award (2013), and the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Honorary Award.
Currently, he heads Media Centre and continues to remain actively involved in media and cultural activities. He resides in Bengaluru with his wife and two daughters.
The Karnataka Rajyotsava Award will be conferred on Mr. B.M. Haneef by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah at a ceremony to be held on November 1, 2025, at 6 PM. at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bengaluru.
