Mr. A. Kunhipalli, born on June 15, 1938, into a well-reputed family in Aivataklu-Yenmoor, which is part of Sullia in the Dakshina Kannada area. He was the son of the late Mr. Patel Mammali and the late Mrs. Ummalima. From an early age, Kunhipalli demonstrated a commitment to education and community service that would define his life.
He completed his primary and secondary education in Yenmoor and Panja, setting a strong academic foundation. He then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mangalore Arts College. His academic journey continued at the Government Law College in Bangalore, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
Upon completing his law degree, Kunhipalli began his legal career under the mentorship of the renowned civil and criminal lawyer, late Mr. Somashekar Rao, in Mangalore. He also received guidance from K.D. Bhat and N. Subramaniam in Puttur, moving on to officially starting his career in this town. Known for his dedication and integrity, Kunhipalli made significant contributions to the legal field, earning the distinction of being the first notary lawyer for Sullia taluk. His career was marked by a spotless reputation and a commitment to mentoring his subordinates as a senior lawyer.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kunhipalli was deeply involved in social causes, working tirelessly for the betterment of society. He has closely collaborated with prominent political leaders of his time, such as Mr. Betta Ishwar Bhat, Mr. Kurunji Venkataramana Gowda, and Mr. Mundodi Belyappa Gowda. His leadership roles included serving as Director of the Sullia Taluk Board, a Member of the District Board, and Director of the District Education Board. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in establishing multiple schools in Sullia taluk and surrounding areas, significantly enhancing educational opportunities in the region.
Kunhipalli also maintained close associations with notable political figures, including the late Member of Parliament P. M. Saeed, Mr. Devaraja Arasu, and Mr. Verappa Moily. His political engagements included serving as the District General Secretary of the Congress Party and Vice-President of the District Backward Caste Council. These roles underscored his commitment to public service and social justice.
Despite his busy schedule, Kunhipalli remained dedicated to the Muslim community. He served as Vice President of the Sullia Taluk Muslim Samyukth Jamath and President of the Yenmoor Jamath Masjid, a mosque built by his forefathers. His contributions to the Muslim community were substantial, and he ensured that his community commitments were never neglected.
Kunhipalli was a staunch advocate for unity among all religions. His efforts in social service were recognized widely, and he was celebrated for his work in uplifting all sections of society. His life stands as a testament to the impact that dedicated service and unwavering integrity can have on both professional and community spheres
