1942 – 2013

B.K. Abubakar Luckystar was a distinguished figure who made significant contributions in both business and politics. Born in 1942 in Baikampadi, Mangalore taluk, he was one of ten children of Bava Beary and Beefathima. His journey began with a move to Chikkamagalur, where he settled with his family to pursue business opportunities.

In Chikkamagalur, Abubakar became an influential community leader. He served as the president of the Sangeen Juma Masjid and was actively involved in the Congress party. His political engagement was particularly notable during the 1978 elections, when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi contested from the Chikkamagalur Lok Sabha constituency. Abubakar played a key role in her campaign, working closely with prominent politicians such as former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa, former Ministers D.B. Chandragowda, Sagir Ahmed, Puttegowda, and former Union Minister Taradevi Siddhartha.

After years in Chikkamagalur, Abubakar moved back to Mangalore, where he established “Luckystar Wood Industries” in 1984 in the Baikampadi industrial area. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to personally travel to Malaysia and Singapore to procure materials for his factory. The timber factory, recognized as one of the largest plywood industries in the area, exports products both domestically and internationally. This venture earned him the moniker “Luckystar,” which became synonymous with his name.

Abubakar’s commitment to community development was evident in his efforts as a member of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee and Vice-President of the Surathkal Block Congress. He was instrumental in getting a high school sanctioned in Angargundi near Baikampadi. He also successfully lobbied for the allocation of about one acre of land from the Industries Department around the Adka Dargah in the Baikampadi Industrial Area. This persistent effort led to the construction of Adka Hall.

As the long-serving president of the Baikampadi Juma Masjid, Abubakar’s influence extended to various organizations, including the Dakshina Kannada District Small Industries Association, Canara Chamber of Commerce, and the Muslim Central Committee.

Abubakar’s legacy is carried on by his family. He had three sons and three daughters with his wife. One of his sons, BA Abdul Nasir Luckystar, is currently the president of the Dakshina Kannada District Waqf Advisory Committee. BK Abubakar Luckystar passed away on January 9, 2013, at the age of 73.

ಊರಲ್ಲೂ-ಪರವೂರಲ್ಲೂ ಮಿಂಚಿದ್ದ ಬಿ.ಕೆ. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್

ಉದ್ಯಮ-ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಎರಡೂ ರಂಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಸಾಧಿಸಿದ ವಿರಳ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿ.ಕೆ. ಅಬೂಬಕ್ಕರ್ ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಕೂಡ ಒಬ್ಬರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿಯ ಬಾವ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ-ಬೀಫಾತಿಮಾ ದಂಪತಿಯ 10 ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಪೈಕಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾದ ಬಿ.ಕೆ. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ 1942ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ವ್ಯವಹಾರ ನಿಮಿತ್ತ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಟುಂಬದೊಂದಿಗೆ ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು ನಗರದ ಸಂಗೀನ್ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. 1978ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಜಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಇಂದಿರಾ ಗಾಂಧಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು ಲೋಕಸಭಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಿಂದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಾದ್ಯಂತ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಮಾಜಿ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಎಸ್. ಬಂಗಾರಪ್ಪ, ಮಾಜಿ ಸಚಿವರಾದ ಡಿ.ಬಿ. ಚಂದ್ರೇಗೌಡ, ಸಗೀರ್ ಅಹಮದ್, ಪುಟ್ಟೇಗೌಡ, ಮಾಜಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸಚಿವೆ ತಾರಾದೇವಿ ಸಿದ್ಧಾರ್ಥ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಒಡನಾಟ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು, ಪಕ್ಷದ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಚೂಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು.

ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಬಳಿಕ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿ ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಟಿಂಬರ್ ಕಾರ್ಖಾನೆ “ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್ ವುಡ್ ಇಂಡಸ್ಟ್ರೀಸ್’ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಬಿ.ಕೆ. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್‌ರ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಮುಂದೆ “ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್’ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡಿತ್ತು. ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಪ್ರದೇಶವಾಗಿರುವ ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 1984ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಘಟಕ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದ ಬೆರಳಣಿಕೆಯ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿ.ಕೆ. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಕೂಡ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಕಾರ್ಖಾನೆಯ ಕಚ್ಛಾವಸ್ತುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಮಲೇಶ್ಯಾ, ಸಿಂಗಾಪುರಗಳಿಗೆ ಸ್ವತಃ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಉದ್ಯಮ ಈಗಲೂ ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪ್ಲೈವುಡ್ ಇಂಡಸ್ಟ್ರೀಸ್ ಆಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ದೇಶೀಯ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆ ಸಹಿತ ವಿದೇಶಗಳಿಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳು ರಫ್ತಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ.
ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ, ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ ಬ್ಲಾಕ್ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಸಮೀಪದ ಅಂಗರಗುಂಡಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆ ಮಂಜೂರು ಮಾಡಿಸಲು ಶ್ರಮಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅಡ್ಕ ದರ್ಗಾದ ಸುತ್ತಲಿನ ಸುಮಾರು 1 ಎಕರೆಯಷ್ಟು ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಇಲಾಖೆಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದ ಬೆಲೆಬಾಳುವ ಜಾಗವನ್ನು ದರ್ಗಾಕ್ಕೆ ಮಂಜೂರು ಮಾಡಿಸಲು ಅಂದಿನ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿದ್ದ ನಝೀರ್ ಅಹಮದ್‌ಗೆ ನಿರಂತರ ಒತ್ತಡ ಹಾಕಿ ಸರಕಾರದಿಂದ ಮಂಜೂರು ಮಾಡಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಇದೇ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡ್ಕಾ ಹಾಲ್ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.
ಬೈಕಂಪಾಡಿ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿಯೂ ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್, ಕೆನರಾ ಚೇಂಬರ್ ಆಫ್ ಕಾಮರ್ಸ್, ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಕಮಿಟಿ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಸಂಘ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಬಿ.ಕೆ. ಅಬೂಬಕರ್ ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪತ್ನಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ವಕ್ಫ್ ಸಲಹಾ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಹಾಲಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಬಿ.ಎ. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ನಾಸಿರ್ ಲಕ್ಕಿಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಸಹಿತ ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಹಾಗೂ ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರಿಯರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತನ್ನ 73ನೆ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂದರೆ 2013ರ ಜನವರಿ 9ರಂದು ಅವರು ನಿಧನರಾದರು.
