Dr. Abdul Rahim Nasir was an Indian computer scientist, electronics engineer, academic, and educator. He made significant contributions to the fields of electronics, industrial electronics, and computer science education, and held academic and administrative positions at leading universities in India, the United Kingdom, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan.

He was widely recognized for his academic leadership, research, and contributions to engineering education, receiving over sixty international and national awards throughout his distinguished career.

Early Life and Education

Abdul Rahim Nasir was born on 21 May 1960 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
His father, Haji Khalid Mohammad, was the founder of the renowned Navabharath Night School in Mangalore, an institution that played a significant role in promoting education among working individuals and the underprivileged. His mother, Fathima Khalid, was known for her compassionate nature and strong support in shaping the family’s educational and moral values.

He began his higher education at the University of Mysore, earning a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in 1980 with 9th rank in the university. He continued his postgraduate studies at Mangalore University, where he obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Electronics in 1982, securing 1st rank.

In 1985, he completed his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Industrial Electronics from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK Surathkal). He later pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), one of the world’s leading technical universities, which he earned in 1995.

Academic and Professional Career

Dr. Nasir began his professional career in 1985 as a lecturer at NITK Surathkal (then known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College), where he served until 1998, rising through the ranks to senior lecturer. During this period, he was also a doctoral researcher at IIT Delhi from 1991 to 1995.

In 1997, he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Science and Technology, University of Manchester (United Kingdom).

From 1998 to 2001, he served as Head of the Computer Engineering Department at Glasgow Caledonian College, University of Oman.

Between 2001 and 2008, Dr. Nasir was associated with the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where he chaired the Department of Computer Engineering. His dedication and excellence in teaching earned him the Distinguished Teacher Award.

From 2008 to 2016, he was the Principal and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Jyothismathi Institute of Technology and Sciences, Karimnagar, Telangsna, India and served as a Research guide for PhD students

In 2016, Dr. Nasir joined Inha University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as Dean and Professor of the School of Computer Science and Information Engineering. There, he taught System Programming, Operating Systems, and Blockchain Basics and Platforms, remaining active in academia and research until his final days.

Research Interests

Dr. Nasir’s research interests included pulse-code modulation, electronics, industrial electronics, computer science, and engineering applications. His scholarly work reflected a blend of theoretical and applied research across multiple domains of computing and electronics.

In the same year, he participated in the International Summit on Globalization of Economic and Social Development held in Moscow, where he was honored with the “Iconic Achievers Award.”

ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಕ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ

ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹೀಮ್ ನಾಸಿರ್ ಅವರು 21 ಮೇ 1960ರಂದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು.
ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ಹಾಜಿ ಖಾಲಿದ್ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಅವರು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ನವಭಾರತ್ ನೈಟ್ ಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾಗಿದ್ದು, ದುಡಿಯುವವರು ಮತ್ತು ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ವರ್ಗದವರಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀಡಲು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ಫಾತಿಮಾ ಖಾಲಿದ್ ಅವರು ಮೃದುಸ್ವಭಾವ, ಕರುಣಾಮಯ ಹೃದಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಟುಂಬದ ನೈತಿಕ/ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ವಿಕಸಿಸಲು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

1980ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೈಸೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಿಂದ ಬಿಎಸ್ಸಿ ಪದವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ 9ನೇ ರ‍್ಯಾಂಕ್‌ ಅನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸಿದರು.

1982ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಿಂದ ಎಂ.ಎಸ್‌ಸಿ (ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಾನಿಕ್ಸ್) ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದು 1ನೇ ರ‍್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಪಡೆದರು.

1985ರಲ್ಲಿ ಎನ್‌ಐಟಿಕೆ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್ (NITK) ನಿಂದ ಇಂಡಸ್ಟ್ರಿಯಲ್ ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಾನಿಕ್ಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂ.ಟೆಕ್ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು.

ನಂತರ 1995ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಪಂಚಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಐಐಟಿ ದೆಹಲಿಯಿಂದ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಸೈನ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿಎಚ್‌.ಡಿ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದರು.

ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನ

1985ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಆರ್‌ಇಸಿ (ಇಂದಿನ NITK) ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು 1998ರವರೆಗೆ ವಿವಿಧ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು.

1991 ರಿಂದ 1995ರವರೆಗೆ ಐಐಟಿ ದೆಹಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾಕ್ಟರಲ್ ರಿಸರ್ಚರ್ ಆಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು.

1997ರಲ್ಲಿ ಯುನೈಟೆಡ್ ಕಿಂಗ್ಡಮ್‌ನ ಮ್ಯಾಂಚೆಸ್ಟರ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಶೋಧಕನಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

1998–2001ರ ನಡುವೆ ಒಮಾನ್‌ನ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ಗೋ ಕ್ಯಾಲಿಡೋನಿಯನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು.

2001–2008ರ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೌದಿ ಅರೇಬಿಯಾದ ಕಿಂಗ್ ಫಹದ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ (KFUPM), ಧಹ್ರಾನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಚೇರ್‌ಪರ್ಸನ್ ಆಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿ, Distinguished Teacher Award ಪಡೆದರು.

2008–2016ರಲ್ಲಿ ತೆಲಂಗಾಣದ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಸ್ಮತಿ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಟೆಕ್ನಾಲಜಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಿನ್ಸಿಪಲ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಸೈನ್ಸ್ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪಿಎಚ್‌.ಡಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಕರಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು.

2016ರಲ್ಲಿ ಉಜ್ಬೇಕಿಸ್ತಾನದ ಇನ್ಹಾ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ, ತಾಶ್ಕೆಂಟ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಸೈನ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಇನ್ಫರ್ಮೇಶನ್ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಡೀನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೊಫೆಸರ್ ಆಗಿ ನೇಮಕಗೊಂಡು ಅಂತಿಮ ದಿನಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಬೋಧನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಿದರು.
