H.H. Kunhi Ahmed, also known as Unhi Hajar, exemplified the idea that wealth does not have to separate the rich from the poor. Known for his deep religious devotion, he became a significant role model within the community.

Born on November 1, 1947, to BM Hasan Haji and Khadija in a prestigious family in Mangalore, Unhi Hajar grew up in a wealthy environment. Despite his affluence, he chose not to flaunt his wealth. Instead, he used his resources to support those in need. He was deeply committed to sharing the wealth bestowed upon him by Allah, often providing for the economically disadvantaged and adhering strictly to religious practices.

Unhi Hajar made a notable impact by building houses for the homeless and aiding those in distress. He would discreetly inquire about the needs of any poor person he encountered, either helping them immediately or inviting them to his office to find a solution. His generous nature extended to helping without seeking recognition or publicity.

He played a vital role in the Al Ansar and Moilanji Journals, founded by his brother-in-law Ibrahim Bawa Haji. Not only did he move the newspaper’s office from a rented building to his own property in Kuttar, but he also provided the space rent-free. His financial support ensured the newspaper’s survival during tough times.

Unhi Hajar was respected for his humility and cheerful demeanor. He never sought leadership positions or public acknowledgment but preferred to empower organizations financially. His contributions included serving as the Chairman of HH (Hasan Haji) and Company, Mangalore, a member of the advisory committee of Taqwa Juma Masjid, and a member of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Muslim Central Committee.

Unhi Hajar relocated to Deralakatte 30 years ago and passed away on April 13, 2024. He was laid to rest at Masjid Zeenat Baksh Khabarsthan in Bundar, Mangalore. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters.

ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಉಮರಾ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಾರ್

ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರ ಜೊತೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಒಡನಾಟವಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಬಡವರ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಅಪವಾದ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಬದುಕಿ ಬಾಳಿದವರು ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಾರ್ ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವ ಎಚ್. ಎಚ್. ಕುಂಞಿ ಅಹ್ಮದ್. ಅಪಾರ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯ ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಾರ್ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ನಾಯಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು.
ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳದರೂ ಕೂಡ ಎಂದೂ ಕೂಡ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಶ್ರೀಮಂತಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ಅಂದರೆ ಬಡವರ ಕಣ್ಣೀರೊರೆಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಚೂಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು.

ತನಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಾಹನು ನೀಡಿದ ಅಗಾಧ ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ಅರ್ಹರಿಗೂ ಪಾಲು ನೀಡಿ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ವಿಧಿವಿಧಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಚಾಚುತಪ್ಪದೆ ಪರಿಪಾಲಿಸಿದರು. ಮನೆ ಇಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ ಮನೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗೆ ಸಿಲುಕಿದವರಿಗೆ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸಿದರು. ತನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಯಾಚಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದವರಿಗೆ ನೆರವು ನೀಡಿದರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾದ ಬಿ.ಎಂ.ಹಸನ್ ಹಾಜಿ ಮತ್ತು ಖದೀಜಾ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1947ರ ನವೆಂಬರ್ 1ರಂದು ಕುಂಞಿ ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ಯಾನೆ ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು.
ಮೆಟ್ರಿಕ್ಯುಲೇಷನ್‌ವರೆಗೆ ಕಲಿತಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಬಳಿಕ ಹಡಗು ಉದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟರು. ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಬಡ್ಡಿ ವ್ಯವಹಾರದಿಂದ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ದೂರ ಸರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದುದೇ ಅವರ ವಿಶೇಷ.
ತಾನು ಮಸೀದಿ ಅಥವಾ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಬಡವರನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ತನ್ನ ಜೊತೆಗಿರುವ ಆಪ್ತರನ್ನು ಅವರ ಬಳಿ ಕಳಿಸಿ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಆದ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಒಂದೋ ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರವು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅಥವಾ ತನ್ನ ಕಚೇರಿಗೆ ಕರೆಸಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳ ಪರಿಹಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಶ್ರಮಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ತನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಬಂದವರನ್ನು ಆತ್ಮೀಯತೆಯಿಂದ ಬರಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಮುಗುಳ್ನಗುವುದು ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿಯವರ ಸ್ವಭಾವವಾಗಿದೆ. ತಾನು ನೆರವು ನೀಡಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಯಾರೊಂದಿಗೂ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರಚಾರವನ್ನೂ ಬಯಸುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಭಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ವೇದಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ತನ್ನ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಸದಾ ಹಸನ್ಮುಖಿ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಂತ ಸ್ವಭಾವದವರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ತನ್ನ ಭಾವ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಬಾವಾ ಹಾಜಿ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದ ಅಲ್ ಅನ್ಸಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೊಯ್ಲಾಂಜಿ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಬೆನ್ನೆಲುಬು ಕೂಡ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅಂದರೆ ದೇರಳಕಟ್ಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಡದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳ ಕಚೇರಿಯನ್ನು ಕುತ್ತಾರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತ ಕಟ್ಟಡಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರಿಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಲ್ಲದೆ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ರಹಿತ ಕಚೇರಿ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಮುಗ್ಗಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಸ್ಥಗಿತಗೊಳ್ಳದಂತೆ ಕ್ರಮ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಉಲಮಾಗಳನ್ನು ಸದಾ ಗೌರವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹಪಹಪಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ವಹಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಶಕ್ತಿ ತುಂಬಿ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳು ಸೊರಗದಂತೆ ನೋಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.

ಕೊಡುಗೈ ದಾನಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಎಚ್‌ಎಚ್ (ಹಸನ್ ಹಾಜಿ) ಆ್ಯಂಡ್ ಕಂಪನಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ತಖ್ವಾ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸ್ಜಿದ್‌ನ ಸಲಹಾ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ದಿ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಕಮಿಟಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳದರೂ ಕೂಡ 30 ವರ್ಷದ ಹಿಂದೆ ದೇರಳಕಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ತನ್ನ ವಾಸ್ತವ್ಯ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿದ್ದ ಎಚ್.ಎಚ್. ಉಂಞಿ ಹಾಜಿ 2024ರ ಎಪ್ರಿಲ್ 13ರಂದು ನಿಧನರಾದರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಬಂದರಿನ ಮಸ್ಜಿದ್ ಝೀನತ್ ಬಕ್ಷ್ ಖಬರ್‌ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ದಫನ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಪತ್ನಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಮತ್ತು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಪುತ್ರಿಯರು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ.
