A Humble and Upright Leader

Born on April 13, 1948, in Kodijal, a small village near Mangalore, Ibrahim Kodijal hails from a reputed agricultural family. His father, Late Sufi Kunhi, and mother, Avvamma, were well-known for their family’s affluence and respect in society.

Ibrahim Kodijal pursued his early education at UBMC School, Konaje, and continued his higher primary education at Bharati Higher School, Mudipu. He completed his SSLC from Board High School, Kurnadu, and went on to pursue his PUC and B.Com degree at Government College, Mangalore.

Right from his school days, Ibrahim Kodijal was drawn to politics. During high school, he actively campaigned for the Congress party and became a trusted aide of prominent leaders such as Ullal MLA B.M. Idinabba and renowned district politician K.K. Shetty.

Ibrahim Kodijal began his career at Vijaya Bank but soon realized that banking was not his calling. After resigning within a year, he established “Elite Traders,” an arecanut business in Mangalore’s Bunder area. Since then, he has dedicated himself to both his business and the Congress party, where he has remained loyal throughout his political journey.

Over the years, Ibrahim Kodijal has held various significant positions in social and political organizations including the Chairperson of Mangalore Urban Development Authority.

Ibrahim Kodijal married Seliya Banu from Panemangalore, Aladka. The couple is blessed with six sons:

1948ರ ಎಪ್ರಿಲ್ 13ರಂದು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಸಮೀಪದ ಕೋಣಾಜೆಯ ಕೋಡಿಜಾಲ್ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕೃಷಿಕ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಇಬ್ರಾಹಿಂ ಕೋಡಿಜಾಲ್‍ರವರ ತಂದೆಯ ಹೆಸರು ಮರ್ಹೂಂ ಸೂಫಿ ಕುಂಞಿ. ತಾಯಿ ಅವ್ವಮ್ಮ. ಇವರದ್ದು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಕುಟುಂಬ.

ಇವರ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕೋಣಾಜೆಯ ಯುಬಿಎಂಸಿ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಹೈಯರ್ ಪ್ರೈಮರಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಮುಡಿಪುವಿನ ಭಾರತಿ ಹೈಯರ್ ಸ್ಕೂಲ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ, ಎಸ್ಸೆಸ್ಸೆಲ್ಸಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕುರ್ನಾಡಿನ ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ಹೈಸ್ಕೂಲ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ, ಪಿಯುಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ಬಿಕಾಂ ಪದವಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು.

ಚಿಕ್ಕಂದಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಇವರಿಗೆ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಎಂದರೆ ಬಹಳ ಇಷ್ಟ. ಹೈಸ್ಕೂಲ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗಲೇ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಪರ ಪ್ರಚಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಆಗಿನ ಉಳ್ಳಾಲ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಶಾಸಕ ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇದಿನಬ್ಬ, ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹೆಸರಾಂತ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿ ಕೆ.ಕೆ. ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಮುಂತಾದವರ ಅಚ್ಚುಮೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಯುವಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ವಿಜಯ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಇವರು ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ದುಡಿಯುವುದು ಸರಿಯಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಮನಗಂಡಾಗ ಒಂದೇ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಂದರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಇಲೈಟ್ ಟ್ರೇಡರ್ಸ್’ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಅಡಿಕೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು.

ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೂ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷದಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ಕೋಡಿಜಾಲ್ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸಹಿತ ಅನೇಕ ಸಂಘ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ, ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರಂತರ ದುಡಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವವರು. ಇವರು ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಕೆಲವು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳು ಈ ಕೆಳಗಿನಂತಿವೆ:

ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಪ್ರಭಾರ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಮೈನಾರಿಟಿ ಸೆಲ್‍ನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ, ಕೋಣಾಜೆ ಮಂಡಲ್ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್‍ನ ಪ್ರಧಾನರಾಗಿ, ಕೋಣಾಜೆ ಗ್ರೀನ್ ವೀವ್ ಸ್ಕೂಲ್‍ನ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
