1961 – 2020

Born in 1961 to Ibrahim and Maryam in Malaru near Anekallu on the Kerala-Karnataka border, S. Abdul Rahman spent his entire career in Karnataka. His family moved from Anekallu to a taluk near Bakrabail, where Abdul Rahman spent his childhood in Talakki. With a strong passion for learning from a young age, Abdul Rahman later became a well-regarded educationist. He was an accomplished orator, researcher, and professor of technology, actively contributing to social and religious fields as well.

Abdul Rahman received his primary education in Anekal, completed higher education in Daigoli, and did his PUC at Ujire Siddhavana. He earned an engineering degree in electronics and communication from Manipal Technical University, followed by an M.Tech and a Ph.D. His professional journey included roles as a lecturer at NITK, Suratkal, Anjuman Engineering College, Bhatkal, and Bearys Institute of Technology College, Innoli near Konaje. He also served as an Assistant Registrar at Yenepoya University and as a Professor at PA Engineering College, Nadupadavu near Konaje.

Known as “Engineer Abdul Rahman,” he served as the State General Secretary of the Karnataka State SSCEF and SYS Organizations and was a member of the Karnataka Muslim Jamaat. Fluent in Kannada, English, and Urdu, Prof. Abdul Rahman was dedicated to explaining the principles of Islam scientifically, delivering numerous lectures on the subject. He also edited the English magazine ‘Islam and Science.’

Prof. Abdul Rahman passed away on August 17, 2020, after a brief illness at a private hospital in Deralakatte. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and six daughters.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತಜ್ಞ ಪ್ರೊ. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್ಮಾನ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್

ಕೇರಳ-ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಗಡಿಭಾಗದ ಆನೆಕಲ್ಲು ಸಮೀಪದ ಮಲಾರು ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ-ಮರಿಯಂ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1961ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಎಸ್. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್ಮಾನ್ ತನ್ನ ವೃತ್ತಿ-ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಇಬ್ರಾಹೀಂ ತನ್ನ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸಮೇತ ಆನೆಕಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ಬಾಕ್ರಬೈಲ್ ಸಮೀಪದ ತಲಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್ಮಾನ್ ತನ್ನ ಬಾಲ್ಯವನ್ನು ತಲಕ್ಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದರು. ಬಾಲ್ಯದಲ್ಲೇ ಕಲಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೀವ್ರ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಎಸ್. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್ಮಾನ್ ಪದವಿಯ ಬಳಿಕ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತಜ್ಞರಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು. ವಾಗ್ಮಿಯೂ, ಸಂಶೋಧಕರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲೂ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಆನೆಕಲ್ಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ದೈಗೋಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆದ ಅವರು ಉಜಿರೆ ಸಿದ್ಧವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿಯುಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಣಿಪಾಲದ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಾನಿಕ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂವಹನ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದರು. ಎಂಟೆಕ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಪಿಎಚ್‌ಡಿ ಪದವಿಯನ್ನೂ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಪದವಿಯ ಬಳಿಕ ಸುರತ್ಕಲ್‌ನ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ (ಎನ್‌ಐಟಿಕೆ), ಭಟ್ಕಳದ ಅಂಜುಮನ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಕೊಣಾಜೆ ಸಮೀಪದ ಇನ್ನೋಳಿಯ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ಇನ್‌ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಟೆಕ್ನಾಲಜಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರಾಗಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಯೆನೆಪೊಯ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸಿಸ್ಟೆಂಟ್ ರಿಜಿಸ್ಟ್ರಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕೊಣಾಜೆ ಸಮೀಪದ ನಡುಪದವಿನ ಪಿ.ಎ. ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. “ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್ಮಾನ್” ಎಂದೇ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರೊ. (ಡಾ) ಎಸ್. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್ಮಾನ್ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಎಸ್ಸೆಸ್ಸೆಫ್ ಮತ್ತು ಎಸ್‌ವೈಎಸ್ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಜಮಾಅತ್‌ನ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಕನ್ನಡ, ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್, ಉರ್ದುವಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಬಲ್ಲವರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಎಸ್. ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ ರಹ್ಮಾನ್ ಇಸ್ಲಾಮಿನ ಆಚಾರ-ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕವಾಗಿ ಸಮರ್ಥಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿದ್ಧಹಸ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ‘ಇಸ್ಲಾಂ ಆ್ಯಂಡ್ ಸೈನ್ಸ್’ ಎಂಬ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಮಾಸಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಸಂಪಾದಕರೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಪಕಾಲದ ಅಸೌಖ್ಯಕ್ಕೀಡಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ದೇರಳಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 2020ರ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 17ರಂದು ಪತ್ನಿ, ಇಬ್ಬರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಮತ್ತು ಆರು ಮಂದಿ ಪುತ್ರಿಯರನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಅಗಲಿದರು.
