B. Muhammad Ichlangodu was born on March 2, 1937, to Abdullah Haji and Kunhalima in Ichlangodu, Kasaragod district. He is known as a historian, researcher, literary figure, poet, journalist, lecturer, thinker, and orator.

Though born in Ichlangodu, he made Dakshina Kannada district his workplace and excelled in various fields. Even as a lecturer, he was deeply involved in research. Beary delved extensively into language, literature, and culture, displaying remarkable insight and eloquence.

He completed his education with distinction: 2nd PUC from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, BA from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi, MA from Manasa Gangotri, Mysore, BL from Sharada Vilasa Law College, Udupi, FAGE from Academy of General Education, Manipal, and received horticulture training from Mangalore University, Shimoga. He also became a certified Reiki healer.

Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu, a versatile literary figure, authored insightful essays through rigorous research and fieldwork. He garnered attention for his stories, poems, articles, and humorous pieces, while quietly contributing to social causes.

Beary’s rigorous fieldwork made an impression on youth from a young age. He mentored numerous young researchers and established his office in Attavar, Mangalore, where he devoted his days to study and advising others. He fearlessly tackled injustices faced by consumers, guided by his commitment to social justice.

During a graduate class, a professor once questioned him, “Are you Beary?” Without hesitation, Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu affirmed, “Yes.” The professor then asked about the origin of the term “Beary” for Muslims, to which Ichlangodu didn’t have a definitive answer. This prompted him to delve deeper into the subject, writing numerous articles in various newspapers despite receiving threats.

Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu remained undeterred in his pursuit of knowledge and research, fully immersing himself in fieldwork and academic pursuits.

Even as a he immersed himself in studying the culture and language of Tulunadu, producing numerous scholarly works. His cultural studies of Moodbidri, Karkala, and Bantwala, along with a special focus on Muslims in Mangalore, garnered significant attention.

In 1997, Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu’s contributions were honored at the Beary Welfare Association’s conference in Bangalore. His efforts to highlight the Beary identity in the media were recognized, a stark contrast to earlier threats he faced for doing so.

Though he regretted not completing his PhD in Beary studies, Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu found solace in the recognition from the Beary community, which considered his contributions akin to a PhD. Undeterred, he continued his scholarly pursuits, delving deeper into Beary culture and language, producing several impactful works.

Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu, affectionately known as Ichlangodu, was honored with the presidency at the third Beary literature conference in Udupi in 2001 for his extensive studies on Beary language, literature, and culture. He also served as a founding member of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy and played a pivotal role as Editor-in-Chief of the Beary-Kannada-English Dictionary published by the Academy.

About 150 stories, over 200 poems, 25 humorous articles, and 800 ideological articles of him were published across various newspapers. He contributed an introduction to the Tulu language in the National Language Survey and delivered thoughtful speeches on Mangalore Akashvani, including one on religious reconciliation at an interfaith conference in Dharamsthala. He received over 200 awards, titles, honors, and accolades from different parts of the country.

These accolades include the Divyadarshan (Holy Qur’an) National Award for poetry in 1975, Literary Service Award from Moodbidri Rotary Club, Bearys Welfare Association Award for Beary Culture Research, Beary Literary Award at the 1st Beary Literary Conference, Chairmanship of the 3rd Beary Literary Conference in Udupi, Beary Honorary Award from Central Beary Council Karnataka, membership of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Akademi, Honorary Award from Karnataka Beary Sahitya Akademi, Senior Literary Award of the Year by Muslim Writers Association, Sahitya Saurabh Award by Dakshina Kannada District Documentary Writers Association, Media Award by Federation of Indian Small and Medium Newspapers, Customer Service Award by Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Service Union, Journalists of Moodbidri Customer Service Award from Sangh, Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Rajyotsava Award, Beary Literary Award from Akhil Bharat Beary Parishad, Researcher, Literary, Social Worker Award from Alvas Educational Institute, Ghadin Nadu State Award of Karnataka Border Kannada Conference, Chutuku Literature Award at Dakshina Kannada District Sixth Chutuku Sahitya Conference, Talent Meelad Award by Talent Research Foundation, Porlu Award from Bisu Tulunad by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Akademi and Nelyadi’s “Nammuru Nammavaru” Organization, Poetry and Media Award by Coastal Cultural Academy, Kasaragod, Karnataka Utsav Award at Kerala State 5th Kannada Conference, Literature at Coastal Karnataka Cultural Conference at Deralakatte Honors, Kuvempu State Award from Surve Cultural Academy, Dakshina Kannada District Senior Citizen Service Award from Senior Citizens Empowerment Department, Beary Sahitya Award at Alwas Nudisiri, Certificate of Excellence in 2015 from Ramlan Trust, Mangalore, Sheikh Ahmed Sir Hindi Award from UNICEF Karnataka, Sahitya from Dakshina Kannada District Kasapa- Poet-Organizer-Researcher-Social Worker Honour, Karnataka Folk Academy Award, Sir M. Visvesvaraya National Award, and Samaj Ratna Award from Jnana Mandara Academy, Bangalore, among others.

He served as the editor of Media Times, Customer Media Weekly, Samanwaya Customer Monthly, Tavanidhi Monthly, and Mustakeem Monthly.

Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu also contributed significantly to community service and activism, including founding the Ichlangodu Gram Seva Sangh, establishing the Karkala Taluk Muslim Seva Sangh, founding the Moodbidire Vijayanagara Welfare Association, setting up the Moodbidire Service Center, and organizing the Moodbidire Civic Coordination Committee. He served as Chairman/Convener of the Mangalore Consumer Awareness Forum, was the Founder General Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Organizations Federation, and held memberships in the Karnataka State Consumer Protection Council and Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Protection Council. He was also Convener of the Lok Adalat of Dakshina Kannada District Consumer Forum and Convener of the Dakshina Kannada Citizens Coordination Council.

After a distinguished career as a history lecturer at Moodubidiri Mahaveera College, he settled in Nandigudda near Attavara, Mangalore, with his wife, four sons, and one daughter. He established a library and museum in his home, mentoring numerous studious students.

Prof. B.M. Ichlangodu passed away in the late night of May 24, 2022, at a private hospital in Mangalore. He was laid to rest on May 25 near Malikuddinar Juma Masjid at Ichlangodu in Kasaragod district.

ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಹಿರಿಮೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರೊ.ಬಿ.ಎಂ.ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು

ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಅಬ್ದುಲ್ಲಾ ಹಾಜಿ-ಕುಂಞಲಿಮಾ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1937ರ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 2ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದ್ದ ಬಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಅವರನ್ನು ಇತಿಹಾಸ ತಜ್ಞ, ಸಂಶೋಧಕ, ಸಾಹಿತಿ, ಕವಿ, ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ, ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕ, ಚಿಂತಕ, ಭಾಷಣಕಾರ… ಹೀಗೆ ನಾನಾ ಸ್ತರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ.

ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳೆದರೂ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಕರ್ಮಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿಸಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ರಂಗದಲ್ಲೂ ಕೈಯಾಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಕೂಡ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೀವ್ರ ಆಸಕ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಭಾಷೆ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಆಳವಾಗಿ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದರು. ಆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕರಾರುವಾಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಬಲ್ಲ ಮೇಧಾವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ 1ರಿಂದ 10ನೆ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗೆ ಕಲಿತ ಬಳಿಕ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಪಿಯುಸಿ, ಉಡುಪಿಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾಗಾಂಧಿ ಮೆಮೋರಿಯಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಎ, ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಮಾನಸ ಗಂಗೋತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಎ, ಉಡುಪಿಯ ಶಾರದಾ ವಿಲಾಸ ಕಾನೂನು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಎಲ್, ಮಣಿಪಾಲದ ಫೆಲೋ ಆಫ್ ಅಕಾಡಮಿ ಆಫ್ ಜರನಲ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಫ್‌ಎಜಿಇ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದಿಂದ ಹಾರ್ಟಿಕಲ್ಚರ್ ತರಬೇತಿ, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ರೇಕಿ ಹೀಲಿಂಗ್ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಪದವಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ಎಂಬ ಹಿರಿಮೆಗೂ ಊರಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಆಡು ಮುಟ್ಟದ ಸೊಪ್ಪಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರಾಕಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೈಯಾಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಆಳವಾದ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಯುತ ಪ್ರಬಂಧಗಳನ್ನು ಮಂಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಕತೆ, ಕವನ, ಲೇಖನ, ಹಾಸ್ಯ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಬರೆದು ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.

ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಇಳಿ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಯುವಕರನ್ನು ನಾಚಿಸುವಂತೆ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅನೇಕ ಯುವ ಸಂಶೋಧಕರಿಗೆ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಅತ್ತಾವರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತನ್ನ ಮನೆ ಸಮೀಪವೇ ಸ್ವಂತ ಕಚೇರಿ ತೆರೆದು ದಿನವಿಡೀ ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತರಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಗ್ರಾಹಕರಿಗಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅನ್ಯಾಯದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಕಾನೂನು ಹೋರಾಟ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಲಹೆ, ಸೂಚನೆ, ಪರಿಹಾರ, ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಪದವಿ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾಗ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರೊಬ್ಬರು “ನೀನು ಬ್ಯಾರಿಯಾ?” ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದೇ ತಡ, ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಹಿಂದೆ ಮುಂದೆ ನೋಡದೆ “ಹೌದು” ಎಂದಿದ್ದರು. “ಹಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರಾದ ನಿಮಗೆ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಅಂತ ಹೇಗೆ ಬಂತು?” ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರು ಮತ್ತೆ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಅವರ ಬಳಿ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಉತ್ತರವಿರಲಿಲ್ಲವಂತೆ. ಹಾಗಂತ ಬಿ. ಮುಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಸುಮ್ಮನಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದ ಉಪಕುಲಪತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರೊ.ಬಿ. ಶೇಖ್ ಅಲಿಯ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನವನ್ನೂ ಪಡೆದರು. “ಬ್ಯಾರಿಗಳು ಯಾರು? ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬಂದರು?” ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆದರು. ಅದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬೆದರಿಕೆ ಕರೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿದರು. ಆದರೂ ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯಿಂದ ಹಿಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಕಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.
ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕನಾದರೂ ಕೂಡ ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಭಾಷೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ನಡೆಸಿ ಅನೇಕ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮೂಡುಬಿದಿರೆಯ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ಕಾರ್ಕಳದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರ ಕುರಿತು ವಿಶೇಷ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ನಡೆಸಿ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಿದ್ದರು.
1997ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ವೆಲ್ಪೇರ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಅವರ ಸಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಕೊಂಡಾಡಿದರು, ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಿದರು. ಒಂದು ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಎಂದು ಬರೆದರೆ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತೆಗೆಯುವುದಾಗಿ ಬೆದರಿಸಿದ್ದ ಸ್ವ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದವರೇ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಎಂಬ ಅಸ್ಮಿತೆಯನ್ನು ನಾಡಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ್ದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕರೆದು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದ್ದು ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಅವರ ಉತ್ಸಾಹವನ್ನು ಇಮ್ಮಡಿಗೊಳಿಸಿತ್ತು.
ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಕಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿಎಚ್‌ಡಿ ಮಾಡಲು ಮುಂದಾಗಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣಾಂತರದಿಂದ ಪಿಎಚ್‌ಡಿ ಪೂರ್ತಿಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದ ನೋವು ಸದಾ ಕಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ ಕೂಡ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಿದ್ದು ಪಿಎಚ್‌ಡಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿ ಹರ್ಷಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆ ಬಳಿಕ ಪ್ರೊ.ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಭಾಷೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ನಡೆಸಿ ಅನೇಕ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆ ತಂದಿದ್ದರು.
ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಅಥವಾ ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಎಂದೇ ಜನಜನಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಭಾಷೆ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಕುರಿತಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಕ್ಕೆ ಮನ್ನಣೆ ಎಂಬಂತೆ 2001ರಲ್ಲಿ ಉಡುಪಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಮೂರನೇ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯ ಗೌರವ ಲಭಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಅವಧಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯು ಹೊರತಂದ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ, ಕನ್ನಡ, ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಡಿಕ್ಷನರಿಯ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು.
ಸುಮಾರು 150 ಕಥೆಗಳು, 200ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಕವನಗಳು, 25ರಷ್ಟು ಹಾಸ್ಯ ಲೇಖನಗಳು, 800ರಷ್ಟು ವೈಚಾರಿಕ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ವಿವಿಧ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಭಾಷಾ ಸರ್ವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ತುಳು ಭಾಷೆಯ ಪರಿಚಯ ಲೇಖನ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಆಕಾಶವಾಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಚಿಂತನ ಭಾಷಣಗಳು ಪ್ರಸಾರವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಸರ್ವಧರ್ಮ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಧರ್ಮ ಸಮನ್ವಯ ಕುರಿತು ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ನಾಡಿನ ವಿವಿಧ ಕಡೆ 200ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಬಿರುದು, ಗೌರವ, ಸನ್ಮಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಭಾಜನರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
1975ರಲ್ಲಿ ದಿವ್ಯದರ್ಶನ (ಪವಿತ್ರ ಕುರ್‌ಆನ್) ಕಾವ್ಯಾನುವಾದಕ್ಕೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಮೂಡುಬಿದಿರೆಯ ರೋಟರಿ ಕ್ಲಬ್‌ನಿಂದ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸೇವಾ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಸಂಶೊಧನೆಗಾಗಿ ಬ್ಯಾರೀಸ್ ವೆಲ್ಫೇರ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್‌ನಿಂದ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಪ್ರಥಮ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಉಡುಪಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ 3ನೆ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ, ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಪರಿಷತ್‌ನಿಂದ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಗೌರವ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯತ್ವ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯ ಗೌರವ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಲೇಖಕರ ಸಂಘದಿಂದ ವರ್ಷದ ಹಿರಿಯ ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ದಸ್ತಾವೇಜು ಬರಹಗಾರರ ಸಂಘದಿಂದ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸೌರಭ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಮಧ್ಯಮ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳ ಫೆಡರೇಶನ್‌ನಿಂದ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಗ್ರಾಹಕ ಸೇವಾ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದಿಂದ ಗ್ರಾಹಕ ಸೇವಾ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಮೂಡುಬಿದಿರೆಯ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರ ಸಂಘದಿಂದ ಗ್ರಾಹಕ ಸೇವಾ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕನ್ನಡ ರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಪರಿಷತ್‌ನಿಂದ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಆಳ್ವಾಸ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಿಂದ ಸಂಶೋಧಕ, ಸಾಹಿತಿ, ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಗಡಿನಾಡ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಗಡಿನಾಡು ಧ್ವನಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಆರನೇ ಚುಟುಕು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಚುಟುಕು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಟ್ಯಾಲೆಂಟ್ ರಿಸರ್ಚ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್‌ನ ಟ್ಯಾಲೆಂಟ್ ಮೀಲಾದ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ತುಳು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ನೆಲ್ಯಾಡಿಯ “ನಮ್ಮೂರು ನಮ್ಮವರು” ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಬಿಸು ತುಳುನಾಡ್‌ದ ಪೊರ್ಲು ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಕಾಸರಗೋಡಿನ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಕಾವ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಕೇರಳ ರಾಜ್ಯ 5ನೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಉತ್ಸವ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ದೇರಳಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಸುರ್ವೆ ಕಲ್ಚರಲ್ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯಿಂದ ಕುವೆಂಪು ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣ ಇಲಾಖೆಯಿಂದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರಿಕ ಸೇವಾ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಆಳ್ವಾಸ್ ನುಡಿಸಿರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ರಮ್ಲಾನ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್‌ನಿಂದ 2015ರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಕ್ಸಲೆನ್ಸ್ ಸರ್ಟಿಫಿಕೆಟ್, ಯುನಿವೆಫ್ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಶೇಕ್ ಅಹ್ಮದ್ ಸರ್ ಹಿಂದಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಸಾಪ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಾಹಿತಿ-ಕವಿ-ಸಂಘಟಕ-ಸಂಶೋಧಕ-ಸಮಾಜಸೇವಕ ಗೌರವ ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಜಾನಪದ ಅಕಾಡಮಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಸರ್ ಎಂ. ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಯ್ಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಮಂದಾರ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಯಿಂದ ಸಮಾಜ ರತ್ನ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ… ಹೀಗೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಮೂಡುಬಿದಿರೆಯ ಮಹಾವೀರ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರಾಗಿ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ಕಾಲ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿ ನಿವೃತ್ತರಾದ ಬಳಿಕ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಅತ್ತಾವರ ಸಮೀಪದ ನಂದಿಗುಡ್ಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪತ್ನಿ, ನಾಲ್ವರು ಪುತ್ರರು ಮತ್ತು ಒಬ್ಬ ಪುತ್ರಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದರು. ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ, ವಸ್ತು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಾಲಯವನ್ನು ತೆರೆದು ಅನೇಕ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಶೀಲ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. 2022ರ ಮೇ 24ರ ತಡರಾತ್ರಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧನರಾದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಬಿ.ಎಂ. ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಇಚ್ಲಂಗೋಡು ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿನ ಮಾಲಿಕುದ್ದೀನಾರ್ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸ್ಜಿದ್ ಬಳಿ ಮೇ 25ರಂದು ದಫನ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.
