Shameema Kuthar

A Beacon of Beary Culture, Literature, and Leadership

Shameema Kuttar, daughter of Hasan Haji and Haleema, hails from Kuthar, Mangaluru, in Dakshina Kannada. She currently resides in Kumble, Kasaragod.

Educational Background:
She holds dual master’s degrees: an MA in English and an MA in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Professional Journey:
Shameema serves as the Head of the Department at Mahatma Degree College and is also a lecturer at Imam Shafi She Campus, Kumble – Kasaragod. Additionally, she is a recognized resource person specializing in child psychology and pre-marital counseling.

Literary Contributions:
A versatile writer proficient in Beary, Kannada, and English, Shameema is deeply passionate about literature, linguistic sciences, and Beary folklore. She has penned hundreds of articles, poems, and stories, many of which have been featured in prominent magazines and online platforms. Her Kannada stories have also been broadcast on Akashavani Mangaluru.

Notably, she contributed a Beary column titled “Baakiyaayo Palaka” to Melthene magazine, and her works have frequently appeared in Beary Varthe, a monthly publication.

Recognition and Achievements:
Shameema has participated in over 60 poetry festivals, including prestigious events like Abbakka Utsava, the Bangalore Literature Festival 2023, the World Literature Festival in Saudi Arabia 2024, and the Festival of Letters conducted by the Kendra Sahitya Academy in Delhi in March 2024, where she represented the Beary language.

In 2025, she has been unanimously elected as the President of the Akhila Bharatha Beary Mahila Parishath, the women’s wing of the Akhila Bharatha Beary Parishath, a prestigious position that highlights her leadership and dedication to the Beary community.

Her literary excellence has earned her more than ten awards for her stories and poems, solidifying her reputation as a celebrated writer, cultural ambassador, and inspiring leader.
