Haji U.K. Ibrahim, dedicated himself to the development of Syed Madani Dargah and Central Jumma Masjid in Ullal, serving as its President for an impressive 35-year tenure.
Born in 1929 to Shekaka and Putumma (Nafisa) in the humble surroundings of Kotepur, Ullal, UK Ibrahim embarked on his journey from a sack business, striving tirelessly for the advancement of underprivileged children’s education. He believed fervently that every child, regardless of their background, deserved access to education. With his broad-mindedness and tactful demeanor, he fostered amiable relations with people of all faiths and castes, earning widespread admiration and respect.
Beginning his public service as a member of Ullala Gram Panchayat, Haji U.K. Ibrahim’s dedication to community and social welfare led to his involvement in the Madani Jamaat committee. In 1973, he assumed the presidency of Ullal Dargah, a position he held unopposed for an unprecedented seven consecutive terms, totaling 35 years of steadfast leadership until his passing.
Haji U.K. Ibrahim’s commitment to community welfare extended beyond his role as the President of Syed Madani Dargah. He served as the founder chairman of the Syed Madani Charitable Trust since 1982, and later established the Syed Madani Arabic Educational Trust in 1986. Additionally, he held positions such as President of the Multipurpose Cooperative Society and President of Ullala Shanti Samiti, founded in 1973 to foster communal harmony in Ullala.
His dedication to education led to the establishment of over 25 mosques under the Syed Madani Arabic Educational Trust, along with more than 30 madrasas and institutions like the Syed Madani Arabic Shariat College and Women’s College under the Syed Madani Charitable Trust. With his leadership, a degree college, an ITI, and primary and high schools offering education in Kannada, Urdu, and English mediums were also established.
In recognition of the community’s healthcare needs, he spearheaded the construction of a hospital in Ullala under the auspices of the Syed Madani Foundation.
Haji U.K. Ibrahim Haji’s legacy as a pioneer of social and educational reform, who illuminated Ullal with the principles of justice, wisdom, and peace, continues to resonate in the hearts of the people. His tireless efforts to dispel ignorance and foster harmony among all religions earned him widespread admiration and recognition.
In appreciation of his exemplary service to society, Haji U.K. Ibrahim Haji was honored on Republic Day 1996 and acclaimed by the Bearys Welfare Association, Bangalore, in a program held in 1997. In 1999, the Ramananda Ashram Trust of Kotekar Kolya bestowed upon him the prestigious title of “Dharma Seva Ratna,” acknowledging his remarkable contributions to humanity. His dedication was further celebrated through numerous awards and titles bestowed upon him by various organizations.
A man of impeccable character and gentle demeanor, Haji U.K. Ibrahim Haji cherished a contented family life with his wife Halimamma and their five sons and five daughters. He passed away on October 7, 2007, at his residence in Ullala Kotepura.
