Umar Pajeer, born on August 1, 1960, to the Palli Beary-Khatijamma couple in Pajeer village near Konaje, was a key figure in fostering social consciousness in rural Pajeer. Known for his mild demeanor and integrity, Umar made contributions across social, political, religious, and educational fields. A voracious reader and knowledge sharer, he was the first graduate from Pajeer village and also a lawyer. Umar actively participated in Pajeer Sarvodaya Yuvaka Mandal and Muslim Pragati Parishad and was a keen volleyball and chess player.

Umar played a pivotal role in organizing Tulu dramas through the Sarvodaya Yuvaka Mandal and was involved in religious and social activities through the Izzatul Islam Association. Later, under the Jamiatuthulaba Friends Association, he organized notable events like blood donation camps. His political journey began with the Congress party through the NSUI, eventually becoming the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Secretary.

In 1995, Umar ran as a Congress candidate for the Bantwala Taluk Panchayat election from Kurnadu constituency but did not win. However, he successfully contested the Pajeeru Gram Panchayat elections the same year, winning by a majority. He went on to win the Bantwala Taluk Panchayat elections in 2000 and served as its Vice President. Re-elected in 2005 from the Naringana Constituency, he also won the Bantwala APMC election and held directorships at Bantwala Land Development Bank and Ammembala Seva Cooperative Banks.

Umar served twice on the Dakshina Kannada District Waqf Advisory Committee, once as vice president, and was a member of the Akila Bharatha Beary Parishath and the Muslim Central Committee. He was active in Ullala Sadbhavana Vedike and served as the president of the Pajeer Rahman Juma Masjid for seven years. Additionally, he chaired the Development Committee of Mudipu Government PU and Graduate College.

Umar was an environmentalist and water conservationist, known for mingling with people from all walks of life and helping the underprivileged. He promoted communal harmony and was a collector of antiques, preserving items like wooden furniture, iron trunks, agricultural tools, household items, utensils, clocks, and crutches. Umar Pajeer passed away on January 22, 2021, leaving behind his wife, one son, and one daughter.

ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್

ಕೊಣಾಜೆ ಸಮೀಪದ ಪಜೀರ್ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಪಳ್ಳಿಬ್ಯಾರಿ-ಖತೀಜಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ 1960ರ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 1ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದ್ದ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಮುಖರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಛಾಪು ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ಮಿತಭಾಷಿ, ಶುದ್ಧ ಹಸ್ತದ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿ. ಸದಾ ಓದಿ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪಡೆಯಲು ಹಂಬಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ಇತರರಿಗೂ ತನ್ನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಹಂಚುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಪಜೀರ್ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಪದವೀಧರ ಮತ್ತು ನ್ಯಾಯವಾದಿ ಎಂಬ ಕೀರ್ತಿಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ಸರ್ವೋದಯ ಯುವಕ ಮಂಡಲ, ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಪ್ರಗತಿ ಪರಿಷತ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ವಾಲಿಬಾಲ್ ಮತ್ತು ಚೆಸ್ ಆಟಗಾರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಸರ್ವೋದಯ ಯುವಕ ಮಂಡಲದ ಮೂಲಕ ತುಳು ನಾಟಕಗಳ ಆಯೋಜನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇಝ್ಝತುಲ್ ಇಸ್ಲಾಂ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಜಮೀಯತುತ್ತುಲಬಾ ಫ್ರೆಂಡ್ಸ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್ ಆಗಿ ಮರುನಾಮಕರಣಗೊಂಡ ಈ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ರಕ್ತದಾನ ಶಿಬಿರ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಎನ್‌ಎಸ್‌ಯುಐ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. 1995ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕುರ್ನಾಡು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಿಂದ ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ತಾಲೂಕು ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಚುನಾವಣೆಗೆ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿ ಸೋತರೂ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ಧೃತಿಗೆಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದೇ ವರ್ಷ ಮತ್ತೆ ಪಜೀರು ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಚುನಾವಣೆಗೆ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಬೆಂಬಲಿತ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿ ಬಹುಮತದಿಂದ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದರು. 2000ನೆ ಇಸವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ತಾಲೂಕು ಪಂಚಾಯತ್‌ಗೆ ನಡೆದ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿ ಗೆದ್ದ ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ತಾಲೂಕು ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿಯೂ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದರು. 2005ರಲ್ಲಿ ನರಿಂಗಾನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಿಂದ ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ತಾಲೂಕು ಪಂಚಾಯತ್‌ಗೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿ ಪುನರಾಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡರು. ನಂತರ ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ಎಪಿಎಂಸಿ ಚುನಾವಣೆಗೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸಿ ಗೆಲುವು ಸಾಧಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಬಂಟ್ವಾಳ ಭೂ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್, ಅಮ್ಮೆಂಬಳ ಸೇವಾ ಸಹಕಾರಿ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್‌ಗಳ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ವಕ್ಫ್ ಸಲಹಾ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ನೇಮಕಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಬ್ಯಾರಿ ಪರಿಷತ್, ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಕಮಿಟಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಉಳ್ಳಾಲದ ಸದ್ಭಾವನಾ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಎಂಬ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಪಜೀರು ರಹ್ಮಾನ್ ಜುಮಾ ಮಸೀದಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಏಳು ವರ್ಷ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮುಡಿಪು ಸರಕಾರಿ ಪದವಿ ಪೂರ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಪದವಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಉಮರ್ ಪಜೀರ್ ಪರಿಸರ ಪ್ರೇಮಿ, ಜಲ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಸಮಾಜದ, ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಹಿರಿಯರು, ಕಿರಿಯರು ಎನ್ನದೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ತರದ ಜನರೊಡನೆ ಆತ್ಮೀಯವಾಗಿ ಬೆರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅಶಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ನೆರವು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ರಾಜಿ ಪಂಚಾಯತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಎತ್ತಿದ ಕೈಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಕೋಮು-ಸೌಹಾರ್ದದ ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮರದ ಪೀಠೋಪಕರಣಗಳು, ಕಬ್ಬಿಣದ ಟ್ರಂಕು, ಕೃಷಿ ಪರಿಕರಗಳು, ಗೃಹೋಪಯೋಗಿ ವಸ್ತುಗಳು, ಪಾತ್ರೆ ಪಗಡಿಗಳು, ಗಡಿಯಾರ, ಊರುಗೋಲು ಹೀಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಪುರಾತನ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಜತನದಿಂದ ಕಾಪಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪುರಾತನ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಾಹಕರಾಗಿಯೂ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಅವರು 2021ರ ಜನವರಿ 22ರಂದು ಪತ್ನಿ, ಒಬ್ಬ ಪುತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಒಬ್ಬರು ಪುತ್ರಿಯನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಇಹಲೋಕ ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿದರು.
